Print business ends year on high despite delay in
projected growth according to BPIF The print industry is set for an end-of-year boom despite a delay in growth, the latest British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) numbers say. The independent body recorded in its latest Printing Outlook report that output, orders, and confi dence in Q3, displayed the most positive values for two years. Profi t distribution was healthier, and cash
fl ow was being managed effectively, with most companies specifi cally targeting improvements in operational effectiveness, sales management and cost control.
BPIF also found sustainability trends are growing as more businesses are measuring, and minimising, their carbon footprint. But BPIF warns to be cautious with the projections as some adjustments may be needed with the announcement of the Government’s Budget along with concerns within
the industry having an impact. A shortage of skilled employees was identifi ed as a signifi cant issue limiting capacity utilisation with BPIF calculating it was restricted by just over 11% in October. Kyle Jardine, BPIF economist, said: “Some
uncertainty still remains but Q4 expectations remain positive.
“The last 24 months have been characterised
by lingering and extreme cost pressures, economic uncertainty and political instability. “Now, infl ation has fallen below target, and the UK economy is experiencing moderate economic growth.
“With the Budget revealed, businesses will at least be ready to move on with some of that uncertainty behind; though they will likely fi nd that process of moving on is more challenging as a result of its changes.”
