Event director, The Print Show

What’s the most important part of your role today? Without question, it’s the relationships I have with our exhibitors, along with the associations and partners who support the show. Without their trust and commitment, we wouldn’t have the event we have today. Every year I work to build relationships with new exhibitors while never forgetting those who have supported us over the past decade.

What key lessons have you learned during your career? Never think you’ve got it all figured out. Every year I learn something new. One of the biggest lessons over the last decade has been learning to trust other people and work closely with partners who can help shape the event. Surrounding yourself with great people and being open to their ideas has made The Print Show stronger year after year.

What have you enjoyed most about your career? Without a doubt, it’s the people I’ve met and the relationships I’ve built. Many of those reading this will know who they are. There are simply too many to mention. Some of my closest friends started out as clients, and I never imagined that a career in the print industry would lead to friendships like that.

What insights into the world of printing have you gained? Travelling around the UK to visit clients gives me a great view of the industry as a whole. I’m constantly amazed by how quickly technology evolves, particularly in the digital wide-format sector.

Every year at The Print Show we see exciting product launches and new developments, whether that’s hardware, software or emerging technologies like AI. Alongside advances in digital printing, short-run production, variable data printing and finishing, it’s incredible to see just how much is now possible.

And when you look at the range of materials you can print on today, it’s genuinely bonkers.

Why is an event like The Print Show so important?

The Print Show is something everyone in our industry should value. It gives the UK print community a chance to come together once a year to see the latest products, technologies and services under one roof. Just as important, it’s an opportunity to catch up with existing contacts, make new ones and strengthen relationships across the industry. And, of course, there’s always the chance to

enjoy a few drinks with colleagues and customers. In my experience, our industry certainly knows how to socialise.

What does the future hold for Chris Davies and The Print Show? That’s a good question. I hope there are many more years like the one we’re having now. The hard work we’ve put in over the past decade is really starting to pay off, and The Print Show has become an event I’m incredibly proud of. Whatever happens, I can’t see myself working

in any other industry. I’ve always said the print industry is like the Hotel California: you can check out, but you can never leave.
