GAME ACCESSIBILITY CONFERENCE

Back in January we had the GAconf Awards, which as well as honouring the likes of God of War and Horizon Forbidden West, taught us that it’s never too late to exand the accessibility of games, with awards going to the latest iterations of Rocksmith and The Last of Us Part 1. Following that up is the 2023 GAconf itself, which as well as continuing in virtual form, will have an in- person component at the Coin Street Conference Centre in London. Development speakers so far announced include those from Rebellion, Ubisoft. The Chinese Room and others, with more no doubt announced since we went to press.

MCV/DEVELOP AWARDS In the world of magazine publishing time is not measured in months, weeks or days, but in issues, and there are just two to go until this year’s MCV/DEVELOP Awards come around. Taking place for the first time at 8 Northumberland Avenue, London, the 2023 awards will not only be a celebration of the UK game industry’s increasing ingenuity, creativity and success, but will also mark 25 years since the first issue of MCV rolled off the presses back in 1998 – just before The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time came out, in fact. This year’s awards will be presented on the evening before the release of Tears of the Kingdom, which as well as being a pleasingly serendipitous link to the past, gives you no excuse not to come along.

E3 There was a time when E3 was the biggest event in the global gaming calender. Then, weirdly, the only global gaming event not on any calender, in spite of the fact that others hit by the pandemic at

least tried to make a fist of it it by going virtual. Despite ReedPop since being on board and a lot of noise being made about E3’s big return, much like Microsoft’s bid for Activision Blizzard, there remains some skepticism as to whether the end will justify the means, especially as many of the big players will be staying away - which to be fair has been the case for a long time. It’ll be great to see it back in any case.
