That’s all, folks!

ello, reader. I’ve been putting writing this letter off for absolutely ages, but alas, I am finally completely out of other things to do. I have even already done the bloody Contents page, which any former MCV editor (or staff writer, for that matter) can tell you is little to no fun and is almost always best left for last.

You may at this point have already heard online, or in whispers in the streets, but this is my last issue of MCV/DEVELOP. My time on the magazine is coming to an early (if not entirely unexpected) end, and between me and the 5000-ish of you, there’ll be a new editor taking over from the next issue.

At the end of my tenure as editor, I can be happy in the knowledge that I didn’t burn this games industry institution to the ground, and I now hand on that 24/7 worry on to the next guy, as is a proud tradition.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my regular columnist contributors: MJ Widomska, Steve

Bromley, Anita Wong, Liz Prince, Adam Smart, Marie-Claire Isaaman, Rhea Loucas, David Cole, Michelle Gimsing and Paul Sulyok, as well as the magazine’s page designer Steve Williams. You are all incredible, and have been the rocket fuel making this entire thing possible for me for the last year.

I may not have had a full in-house editorial staff, but working with all of you on a regular basis has made

sure that I never felt like I was doing this on my own. I am also incredibly grateful to anyone else who stepped up and pitched me a feature, whether we ended up running your work or not … but especially if we ended up running your work.

Last year, I said that I wanted to “revitalise” the magazine, put the spotlight on interesting games industry stories and people, and educate and inform readers. I don’t know if I completely succeeded at all of that, but I do feel proud of everything we have accomplished together.

There are plenty of great features about the art and business of video games just like that to enjoy in this issue, and I hope you have a good time reading them all. I don’t expect that you’ll see me within the pages of MCV/DEVELOP again, but my career continues, and I’m already back to putting out interviews elsewhere. I hope you’ll seek them out and enjoy them just as much as the ones we’ve been printing in here since 2022. In the meantime, just like I said last time I left this magazine forever …

Leonardo is the best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, and I’ll catch you on the flip side.
