It really comes down to whether the brand brings something fun and visually unique to the game. We want these crossovers to feel like a natural extension of the Sonic universe and not just a marketing opportunity. If a character or setting can enhance the racing and overall user experience, that’s a good fit for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

When did the team start reaching out to third-party partners, and how have those conversations gone? Has anyone said no that you wish hadn’t? [laughs] We started long before launch and most partners were very enthusiastic. These collaborations take time and care, especially to get them right for the fans. As for companies who passed … we won’t name names, but we’re always open to conversations in the future!

How far out is the current content roadmap for CrossWorlds? Would you rather keep expanding this title or eventually make a sequel? Right now, we’re focused on growing Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds well into 2026.

Ichiban Kasuga and Nights both joined the roster after launch. Can we expect more SEGA All-Stars to appear? SEGA has such a rich cast of characters, and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is a great place to celebrate that legacy. We’re always thinking about who might be next, so keep an eye out for more announcements down the line as the Season continues.

What about deeper Sonic cuts — like characters from Sonic Boom, SatAM, or the IDW comics? There’s a lot of passion around the extended Sonic universe, and we’re open to including the “deeper cut” characters if the opportunity feels right. We want Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds to represent all eras of Sonic.

Beyond SEGA characters, CrossWorlds features content from Pac-Man, Mega Man, Nickelodeon, and even Minecraft. What makes a brand a good fit for a crossover?

How do you approach monetization in a game like this, especially when younger or family-focused audiences are involved? It’s important to keep things fair and transparent. We’ve made sure that a lot of content, including new characters and updates, is available at no extra cost. There are premium options like the Digital Deluxe Edition, but we want players to feel they’re getting value no matter how they play. Fun should always come first.

… and while I’ve got you — thank you for your hard work. I’m a big fan! Sorry for always asking for a Sonic Adventure remake online. [laughs] Thank you very much, that means a lot … and don’t worry, we see all the messages! The passion for Sonic Adventure is something we’re always aware of.
