ith UK music festivals consuming millions of litres of diesel per year, major
events like Lollapalooza and WOMAD have started experimenting with the use of battery technology to power their stages. However, industry concerns over their reliability remain. Te reliability and longevity of diesel generators make them a gold standard
back-up power solution and therefore commonplace in critical industries such as telecoms, healthcare and transport. Since back-up generators are typically only used in the case mains power fails, it’s easy to believe that their environmental impact is limited and contained. However, this is not always the case.
Diesel generators are oſten the main power source for festivals taking place in remote locations that cannot be hooked up to the grid. But a typical diesel generator emits twice as many greenhouse gases as grid
