intrasatellite optical interconnect SpaceABLE optical modules developed for ARTES Scylight program
Reflex Photonics, a Smiths Interconnect company, was recently awarded a multimillion-dollar contract to deliver thousands of SpaceABLE®
28 optical module
devices to be used in state-of-the-art, high-throughput communication satellites (HTCS) that will be deployed into geostationary orbit. Building on the recognized robustness inherent in the design of Reflex Photonics’ optical modules, the SpaceABLE®
28 line will provide radiation-resistant optical
interconnect modules tested and qualified for use in harsh space environment. Reflex Photonics has benefited from support from the European Space Agency
ARTES Scylight program with financial contribution from the Canadian Space Agency to pursue the development of advanced, high-speed, digital intrasatellite optical fibre communication modules. New OMRON terminal blocks improve assembly efficiency
OMRON Electronic Components Europe has launched a new range of Push-In Terminal Block PCB Connectors to significantly improve the efficiency of connector insertion and removal and cable wiring during assembly. These products will be invaluable to factory automation applications, such as robot
controllers, AC servo drivers and CNC machines. The new OMRON XW4M and XW4N have a very low board profile, reducing the space required for the components in designs. The connectors achieve a very low insertion and extraction force while retaining high quality contact reliability. They are available as a double-row or single-row socket or plug. Commenting for OMRON, Iker Saenz, Product Marketing Manager, said, “We are delighted to launch these new connectors. We are certain that their small size will be of benefit to our customers’ designs, and they will also enhance the efficiency of inspection, assembly and maintenance.”

New smart displays at Engineering Design Show - Reconnect
Designing a product with a colour TFT display and touch-screen does not have to be complex. By using the new EA uniTFTs displays from Electronic Assembly the projects get off to a flying start. With integrated graphics controller, extensive graphics functions and USB, I²C and SPI interfaces, the displays are ready to run without additional peripherals. All touch and display functions can be freely
programmed using the new uniTFTDesigner Windows software tool. The IDE boasts a simple drag-and-drop interface, comes with a simulator and numerous ready to run examples. Available display sizes for the EA uniTFTs are 2.0", 2.8", 3.5" and 4.3" diagonal. The larger EA uniTFT are available in sizes 5.0”, 7.0” and 10.1”. The EA uniTFT(s) displays use improved IPS-Panels with AACS technology (All Angle Colour Stability). This means contrast and colours are retained even at extreme viewing angles.
