fleet management

choosing a compressor that delivers a good roi for your rental fleet

t

o remain competitive, rental companies are under increased pressure to operate as efficiently as possible, and their

profitability primarily depends on choosing the right equipment. ultimately machines, including compressors, that enable the most utilisation at the best rental rate and with low operating costs will provide the best return on investment, boosting the organisation’s bottom line. however, not all compressors are equally well suited to renting out, and so rental managers should carefully consider various factors before purchasing. there are seven key questions to ask before specifying equipment for a rental fleet.

1. What is the potential utilisation rate of the compressor?

compressors that can be used for various applications will have the highest utilisation rate. therefore, it is important to select a compressor that can run at various pressure settings so it can be used across multiple applications. for example, instead of stocking 10 bar, 12 bar and 14 bar compressors, consider purchasing one model that can handle all of these pressures and work in a sandblasting application just as well as it can for a customer running handheld tools at 8 bar. advanced compressors are available

that feature electronic pressure regulation, where the operator can easily set the required pressure in the compressor in just three easy steps.

2. is the compressor easy to operate?

rental compressors will be operated by different people within an organisation, so they should be simple to set-up and safe to run. rental managers should test the controllers of the compressors before purchase, checking for ease of operation and durability. however, the controller should also

protect the compressor against misuse. to prevent any tampering with the machine’s core settings, ensure that they can only be accessed with a service key.
