Making the case for enterprise LabeLLing

how it delivers value throughout the supply chain

supply chain environment, puts pressure on labelling to perform. Factor in the labelling requirements set by suppliers/customers to meet their needs; extensive and increasing variability in labelling, including regional and regulatory requirements; and digital transformation, and it is easy to see how labelling bears the brunt of the complexity of the overall supply chain. despite these challenges, there are

still many organisations that have not moved to an enterprise-wide approach to labelling. different production facilities and distribution centres take their own separate approaches. they choose their own software applications, deploy them opportunistically, and rely on disconnected or manually-entered data. this siloed approach brings inefficiencies that can translate into costly problems: unnecessary expenses associated with having to support and upgrade multiple applications, the inability to scale operations quickly, tardiness in responding to customer requirements, inconsistencies and difficulties in following any corporate guidelines and the risk of fines. meanwhile, from an overall enterprise

perspective, labelling has often been neglected. enterprise initiatives have concentrated instead on deploying enterprise-class systems such as erp and wms. if businesses do not take the same rigorous approach to labelling they take to other mission-critical systems, they are wasting resources and time. this is beginning to change, as

organisations recognise unnecessary costs can occur when labelling is not thought-through enterprise-wide. these organisations are increasingly adopting an enterprise labelling solution that provides an integrated approach that leverages sources of truth for label data.

abelling has always been mission critical. without it, goods do not move. but the complexity of today’s

ensure they will achieve a roi in enterprise labelling. here, we explore areas where they will find opportunities for cost savings, increased operational efficiencies, reduced compliance risk, and competitive advantage.

Why inVest in enterprise LabeLLing? enterprise labelling delivers value throughout the supply chain. within the organisation, an investment in enterprise labelling yields efficiencies that translate into cost savings: across operations, capital expenditures, and through avoiding penalties that customers may assess when shipments are late or mislabelled. taking an enterprise labelling approach also reduces the risk of regulatory fines levied by government and industry organisations – and helps eliminate financial penalties for non-compliance.

eLiMinate costLy deLays labelling delays can often translate into shipment delays and lost revenue. one challenge is the mislabelling that occurs, likely the result of a mistake when a label has incorrect or missing data. errors can happen when an enterprise is maintaining multiple labelling solutions, with no connective bridge to ensure key data is accurate. local data makes synchronisation more challenging especially if it is disconnected. entering labelling data in an ad hoc manner can be risky if not managed through an enterprise-class labelling system. when considering enterprise

labelling, organisations must consider how much it costs to keep inventory and warehouse space – and how many hours downtime and delays they experience from mislabelled goods. data-driven labelling, with business logic enables business users to make mass label changes and extending labelling to
