Work starts on new Thorite UK headquarters

WORK IS underway to create a new and expanded UK headquarters nearer to central Bradford for Thorite, a leading specialist in pneumatics, air compressors, air tools, and fluid handling equipment. Thorite offers customers cost-effective equipment to meet the needs of MRO, OEM, and

resale customers. It supplies many UK industrial market sectors nationwide, and services include application advice, system design & build, and installation. Due to continued growth, Thorite had outgrown its home of the past 50 years and needed to

bring all its value-added services together under one roof. The new, multi-million pound, purpose-built 44,000 sq.ft site more than doubles the size of

the current facility, meaning that Thorite’s Bradford Sales & Service Centre, Aftermarket Service, Systems Design & Build, Training Academy, and National Distribution Centre will all be combined on one site.

Rapid response saves the day for automotive seat manufacturer

WILLIAM HUGHES has come to the aid of an automotive tier-one seat manufacturer, a mission made possible by the company’s broad skill set and advanced capabilities in the world of complex wire forms. The order, which was for seat frames and trim wires,

comprised a number of different complex parts, all of which would see use in five different vehicle types, including SUVs and saloons. In addition to bending and forming, several of the frames also required welding. The accuracy demands were such that engineers used 3D scanners and Vernier calipers to ensure the parts precisely matched the customer specifications. George Cairns at William Hughes explains: “Although we had won the order a few months

previously, and had turned round the prototype parts in just four weeks, the customer hit a scheduling snag.”

Renovotec expands to meet demand for its managed print service

RENOVOTEC, A fast growing rugged hardware, software and services provider for supply chain companies, is expanding to meet escalating demand for its ‘Renovotec Managed Print’ service by opening a 50% larger service centre in Wellingborough, Northants. The company says Renovotec Managed Print is the only service of its kind in the supply chain

manufacturing and logistics industries. Renovotec industry user feedback shows that trends in today’s covid-19 marketplace are

driving company demand for an increase in the size and flexibility of their printer fleets – including the need for social distancing, requiring more packing benches; the need for more frequent cleaning; and the rapid expansion of e-commerce. The same feedback reveals that there is strong company pressure to drive down the cost of

printer ownership.

New synchronous generator more economic than repair

Menzel Great Britain Ltd has supplied a synchronous generator with a power rating of 11380 kVA to Westfield Power Station in Scotland. The plant operated by the Independent Power Producer (IPP) Melton Renewable Energy UK Ltd had suffered a failure of the existing generator. Purchasing the replacement generator, which was delivered in only two weeks, was significantly more cost-effective than a lengthy repair, as the IPP may incur revenue losses when the power supply is interrupted. It was fortuitous that a synchronous generator of suitable rating and performance class was readily available on the market, as this application and configuration are very rare, and such generators are usually manufactured with long lead times. Menzel Great Britain is a subsidiary of German motor manufacturer Menzel Elektromotoren who maintains a very extensive inventory and is specialized on customized adaptations.
