TEMPORARY BUILDINGS W
arehousing, storage and operational space on client premises make up a large proportion of our work, and these projects benefit from our experience, attention
to detail and carefully managed installation processes. However… some environments demand more than standard solutions.
A CAN-DO APPROACH Over the years, we’ve been trusted to deliver temporary buildings in locations that, at impossible. What makes these projects successful isn’t luck or compromise; it’s rigorous planning, a deeply embedded safety culture and an experienced team with a can-do approach.
EXPERIENCE IN ACTION A recent example is a project where we installed of a multi-storey car park. The brief required covered, secure space where no obvious ground- level footprint was suitable. Working at height, in an exposed environment, with live public areas below, meant there was zero tolerance for error. Structural loading, wind exposure, access logistics and much more had to be carefully assessed long before installation began. Because Smart-Space directly employs its
own installation teams and controls the full process, from site survey through to completion, we were able to deliver the building safely, compliantly and without disruption. It’s a perfect example of how experience allows you to challenge assumptions about what can be done, while still maintaining the highest safety standards.
WORKING OVERSEAS We’ve delivered projects in equally demanding environments across the UK and overseas. In Taiwan, we supplied a Smart-Space building to support the installation of offshore wind turbines. The client needed secure, temporary storage for extremely large turbine components before they were shipped out to sea. This environmentally sensitive site required strict controls around access, security and working practices -all areas where our systems and experience proved invaluable.
INSTANT BUILDINGS WITHIN EDUCATION Many of our installations are delivered via Tier-1 construction partners, something we are entirely comfortable with. These projects often involve multiple stakeholders and layers of approval. At Sherwood School in Leeds, for example, we coordinated closely with the school, local authority, contractors, insurers and other parties to ensure a safe and seamless outcome. We do a lot of work in schools which means timing, respect for our surroundings and the people in them, and access are all important factors we’re used to considering.
WORKING ON THE BEACH A coastal installation for the RNLI required us to erect a temporary lifeguarding station and vehicle storage directly on the beach. Access constraints,

RISING TO THE CHALLENGE: INSTALLING INSTANT BUILDINGS
WHERE OTHERS WOULDN’T At Smart-Space, installing instant buildings is our day-to-day business
public safety, challenging terrain and highly exposed weather conditions all had to be factored into the installation plan. Despite being a short-term hire, the same levels of diligence, paperwork and care were applied as they would be on any long-term site.
AN AIRSIDE INSTALLATION During lockdown, we worked airside at Leeds Bradford Airport, installing additional in-out buildings to support passenger processing under strict compliance guidelines. Airside work brings its own enhanced health and safety requirements, all of which were met, and the team’s approach was highly praised by the airport.
GOING NUCLEAR Our experience also includes work at nuclear facilities such as Hinkley Point and Dungeness, where safety processes are understandably exhaustive. These are environments where strong systems, disciplined behaviour and clear communication are essential. We believe that when safety is embedded into company culture rather than treated as a checklist, it becomes second nature.
IT’S ALL ABOUT SAFETY AND EXPERIENCE Without exception, our customers operate under high levels of health and safety governance and expect the same from their suppliers. Some sites reinforce this visually at every turn, particularly where heavy machinery or complex operations are involved. Feedback consistently highlights the professionalism of the Smart-Space team, from initial site surveys and planning meetings

through installation and ongoing maintenance visits. Appearance, behaviour, documentation and communication all matter for every project.
WORKING IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS Alongside these high-risk environments, we’ve also delivered projects in less obvious but equally exacting settings. These include a pop-up Kosher supermarket, a temporary church building, interim fi re stations, a community facility for the scouts, and numerous schools across the UK. Sometimes our buildings need to be placed in tricky locations in terms of space and even irregular sizes. We have overcome these sorts of issues on many occasions.
UNDERSTANDING THE CONTEXT Each of these installations required a tailored approach, understanding the environment, users and risks, then designing a solution that worked safely and effectively. The outcomes of our work are vital for our customers and we are highly mindful of their commitment and investment. All of these projects have one thing in common:
they rely on experience, planning and an experienced team that can integrate into any situation. Safety is the foundation, but successful delivery also depends on professionalism, clear communication, integrity, responsiveness and genuine care. We believe you have to be exceptionally good, as well as confi dent, to consistently deliver installations in challenging and unconventional locations and to do it safely, every time. At Smart-Space, that’s something we thrive on.
