FEATURE: DIY WEEK AWARDS

AVRON: RAISING THE BAR AT THE DIY WEEK AWARDS

For several years running, Avron and its flagship brand, Dekton, have stood out at the DIY Week Awards, claiming accolades across multiple categories. This sustained recognition has cemented Avron’s reputation for innovation, product excellence, and customer-first service. We sat down with Vijay Sahdev, Managing Director of Avron, to discuss the company’s award-winning journey, what drives its success, and how recognition has shaped its growth and influence within the industry.

DIY Week: What initially inspired Avron to start entering the DIY Week Awards, and what were your main objectives at the time? Vijay Sahdev: We wanted to benchmark ourselves against the best in the industry. Entering the awards was about more than just visibility; it was about testing our innovation, design, and service standards on a bigger stage. Our goal was to see where we stood and challenge ourselves to continuously improve.

DIYW: With so many award categories available, how do you decide which categories to enter each year? VS: We look closely at where we’ve made the most impact. Sometimes that’s through product innovation, other times it’s customer service or marketing. The categories we enter align with our strengths and our latest strategic initiatives.

DIYW: Your company has consistently won across multiple categories, what do you believe has been the key to that success? VS: Consistency comes from a strong culture. Innovation is at the heart of what we do, but we also never lose sight of the end user. By listening to our customers and pushing the boundaries in product design and functionality, we’ve been able to stand out year after year.

DIYW: How do you involve your team in the awards process, and what role does company culture play in consistently producing award-winning work? VS: The awards are a shared achievement. Our teams, from product design to the sales department, are deeply involved. We celebrate wins together, but we also use the process as motivation to push further. A culture of pride, collaboration, and ambition keeps the bar high.

18 DIY WEEK AUGUST 2025

DIYW: In such a competitive industry, what differentiates your approach and products from others that may not have achieved the same recognition? VS: We don’t just follow trends, we set them. We are now investing in R&D, focusing on design detail, and ensuring that every product has a clear benefit to the customer, we’ve built a reputation for quality and innovation with value remaining true to our core. That’s what sets us apart.

DIYW: What tangible benefits have you seen from winning so many DIY Week Awards? VS: The marketing impact has been significant. Awards provide third- party validation, which builds confidence with both retailers and consumers. We’ve seen stronger sales growth, more brand visibility, and deeper trust in our offering as a result.

DIYW: How have customers and suppliers responded to your award wins, and has it influenced their decision to buy from or work with you? VS: Absolutely. For customers, awards act as a reassurance; they know they’re choosing a brand with proven excellence. For suppliers

and retail partners, it reinforces that they’re working with a leader who can bring strong products and reliable performance to market.

DIYW: Do you feel that winning awards has given your company more influence within the industry? VS: Yes, influence grows when you’re consistently recognised as a leader. It opens doors for collaborations, gives us a stronger voice in industry discussions, and helps shape trends rather than simply respond to them.

DIYW: Looking back, what lessons have you learned about entering and winning awards, that other companies might not realise? VS: It’s not about chasing trophies; it’s about authenticity. You can’t just “enter to win”; you need to genuinely innovate, listen to your customers, and create products that deserve recognition. Awards are a by-product of doing the right things consistently.

DIYW: Finally, what role do you see awards playing in your company’s medium to long-term growth and brand strategy? VS: Awards will continue to be a cornerstone of our strategy. They validate our innovation pipeline, strengthen our brand, and keep us motivated to push boundaries. Over the long term, they’ll remain a powerful way of reinforcing our leadership in the market.

Benchmarking success, building the future Avron’s DIY Week Awards-winning streak is no coincidence. It reflects strategic planning, a culture of excellence, and a vision that translates recognition into real business results. From boosting customer confidence to strengthening supplier relationships and marketing impact, the awards have played a pivotal role in fueling the company’s growth. As Vijay Sahdev concludes:

“Awards are not just about trophies, they’re about raising standards, celebrating achievements, and pushing our business forward.”
