FLOORING SUPERSTORE EXPANDS SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT OFFERING
The range includes rugs and runners made from recycled t-shirts and carpet manufactured from plastic rescued from the ocean, which is part of the retailer’s commitment to sustainability, including four key sustainability partnerships.
F
looring Superstore, one of the fastest growing retailers of residential
flooring, products, including rugs
has expanded its range of sustainable and
runners made from recycled t-shirts, and a new range of eco-friendly carpets manufactured from plastic rescued from the ocean. The new product ranges are in line with the multichannel retailers’ sustainability strategy, which also includes four key partnerships. Flooring Superstore’s collaborations with Eden Reforestation Project, Future Forest Company, Rainforest Trust UK and ReSea Project will further contribute to the business reducing its carbon footprint and issues relating to global warming by planting trees, cleaning up oceans, protecting habitats and supporting communities. Now, Flooring Superstore has launched a new collection of environmentally friendly rugs and runners made from recycled t-shirts. The rugs come in a stylish geometric pattern in four neutral shades – fossil grey, midnight blue, Tuscan sun, and slate grey. Large rugs are manufactured from 19 disused t-shirts, small are made from eight
recycled t-shirts, and the runners are each made of 5.5 of the clothing items. As the products are made completely from waste materials, for every square metre sold, Flooring Superstore saves 1.6kg of discarded products entering landfill. The fabric waste is collected from the UK, EU and Turkey waste sites and may include other cotton items, such as curtains and pillows. On top of that, Flooring Superstore has also launched Serene – a new range of eco-friendly carpets made from recycled products rescued from the ocean. The two lines – Neptune and Poseidon – are manufactured using ECONYL, a unique yarn made from recycled nylon fishing nets. Available both online and in-store at your local Stockton, Birtley or Blaydon outlets; where you can see, feel and compare the range in person. As well as abandoned fishing nets, Serene carpets incorporate other waste materials from the
ocean. Its eco
recovered textile
backing – Eco FusionBac - is manufactured out of recycled PET plastic bottles. The aim of the range is to give waste products a new purpose after being removed from the ocean, while making the water cleaner and safer.

Ceiling2Floor branches stock a huge variety of decorative PVC panelling, luxury vinyl click flooring and accessories, which are popular with both trade and retail customers. Despite the challenges of Covid-
19 Ceiling2Floor were able to keep their stock levels replenished and remain open throughout lockdown to supply their trade customers. As lockdown restrictions eased the branches across Scotland and the North of England experienced a huge rise in retail customers as DIY and home improvements across the UK saw a massive spike. With the boom in home improvements looking set to continue the company
Directors made the decision to expand their showroom/warehouse and trade counter offering by opening a 12th branch in Dundee at a cost including stock of £200,000. The branch which features a custom-built showroom/warehouse opened its doors on 12 June.
8 DIY WEEK SEPTEMBER 2021
The company recently took their offering online for the first time since its inception 11 years ago. The newly created e-commerce site allows trade and retail customers to shop for all the products that can be found in branch. Joint Managing Director Brian Crombie, said: ‘The last 18 months have
presented us with many challenges but fortunately due to a strong team and robust supply chain we were able to overcome them. Our branches remained open throughout lockdown to supply our trade customers, many of which were involved in the construction of facilities for the Covid-19 response. “Lockdown meant that people have spent more time than ever before in their homes. With most people not being able to go on holiday it has meant they have more disposable income available to invest in their homes to make them more comfortable and visually appealing. Scotland’s enthusiasm for home improvements has allowed us to open our 12th branch with another two possible sites in the pipeline. “The launch of our e-commerce site now allows us to supply customers out with the geographical reach of our branches which has been revolutionary for the business.”
