Bringing the industry back together

It has certainly been a busy month for trade shows, with Autumn Fair and Glee welcoming visitors back for ‘Covid-secure’ live events, as we get used to the post-pandemic ‘new normal’. Getting back out into the real world and meeting people face-to-face again has been refreshing and just what the trade needs. You really can’t beat connecting with like-minded people and getting up close and personal with the latest new products in order to get a feel for how business is doing and where the industry is heading. I’m pleased to say that despite all the necessary extra checks required to gain access to these events, they were both very well attended, exceeding expectations and delivering a shot in the

arm for the industry. This should boost confidence as we enter the final quarter of the year and prepare for that all-important Christmas trade that was sadly lacking last year. In case you were not able to attend in person, we have a report from Glee in this issue, together with a showcased selection of new products that were launched at the event, starting on page 12. In other news, Dulux have been busy researching and working with the trade and decorators to develop the company’s ‘Colour of the Year’ for 2022. With a desire to make a fresh start, and millions of people now adopting hybrid home and office working lifestyles, Dulux says there is a need for a bright and refreshing colour that is flexible and open. Find out what they’ve settled on in our News Extra feature on page 7. Next month, slightly later than planned, we’ll be publishing our DIY Week Awards 2021 winners’ special supplement and also looking ahead to next year’s awards, which we hope will culminate in a live event once again, so watch this space!
