Goold Estates helps Tile Rite to
secure new headquarters
Screwfix opens first store in France
Kingfisher has opened its first Screwfix store in France. The expansion of Screwfix in France is one of the key investments by the Group to drive growth.
Tile Rite has signed a lease with landlord, Goold Estates, on a 50,000 sq ft warehouse, office and showroom at Beecham Business Park in Aldridge. The family-run tiling wholesaler boasts a range of over 350 products and a growing customer portfolio of more than 1,500 retailers. It is relocating to the mixed-use estate from existing premises in Cannock. Goold Estates agreed the new lease with Tile Rite having simultaneously negotiated a surrender on the lease of the previous tenant. Beecham Business Park is a 6.5 acre site that has been extensively refurbished since being acquired by Goold Estates in 2017. Every unit on the estate has
been renewed, re-let or re-geared in the last five years, with significant improvements made to the security system and communal and landscaped areas. Anthony Williams, property
director at Goold Estates, said: “We are delighted to welcome Tile Rite as tenants to Beecham Business Park. We have worked closely with them over the last six months to try and meet their business requirements and timescales for relocation, while also working with our previous tenant to achieve their own relocation plans.
“The investment we have made in the business park has resulted in considerable demand from local occupiers and there is just 279 sq ft of accommodation available to let.”
Laura Harbidge, managing
director at Tile Rite, said: “We would like to thank Anthony and everyone at Goold Estates for all of their help in preparing our new head office and warehouse facility over the last six months.
“As one of the leaders in the supply of tiling tools and accessories, we are embarking on an extensive programme to increase our product range. By tripling our warehouse space and adding a new showroom, we are also providing a much-improved level of service and supply. Not only is this a very exciting time for Tile Rite but it also shows our commitment to our customers.”

Three big reasons the Landscape show is supporting real turf
Landscape, the industry trade show, is doing its bit for sustainability by only supporting real turf at its event on 27 - 28 September 2023. This environmental stance means Landscape will not accept any bookings from exhibitors representing artificial turf, plants or flowers. Event Director, Jeremy Storey-
Walker and the Landscape team are keen to best serve the industry that they represent and are all too aware of the problems that artificial turf contributes towards. He said: “We each have a responsibility to respect our environment and at Landscape we have the ability
to help enforce the message and encourage the use of natural materials wherever possible.” The team at Landscape cite
three main reasons for their push towards real turf over artificial: the environmental impact; the effect on wildlife; and widespread recycling issues. Unlike real grass, artificial turf does not remove carbon from the atmosphere, nor provide habitats for wildlife, or effectively drain

water. Artificial turf is also currently unrecyclable. In a world where we condemn plastic shopping bags and drinking straws, Landscape thinks the option to cover gardens in plastic doesn’t seem quite right. The decision to only represent
real turf at Landscape 2023 also sits in line with the views of two of their long-standing Event Partners, the Royal Horticultural Society and the Society of Garden Designers. The RHS banned artificial grass from all of its events in 2022 in keeping with the charity’s ethos on plastics and as part of their Manifesto for Sustainable Gardens & Landscapes, the SGD suggests using natural alternatives such as wild flower areas or gravel if grass is non-negotiable.
Landscape hopes this choice will be met with understanding and support from the industry.
Thierry Garnier, Kingfisher CEO, commented: “Screwfix’s growth in the UK and ROI has been one of retail’s success stories in recent years, with an average of over a store opening per week for the past decade. Kingfisher’s strong relationships with French suppliers, combined with our deep knowledge of French customers and ranges, mean we are perfectly placed to bring the proven Screwfix model to France.”
Screwfix and the Woodland Trust partner to support Snaizeholme project
Screwfix has announced the launch of its partnership with the Woodland Trust, the largest woodland conservation charity in the UK. Supported by funding from Screwfix, the Woodland Trust will restore, protect, and plant a new native forest at the charity’s Snaizeholme project in North Yorkshire. With a £50,000 donation,
Screwfix will support the regeneration and re-wilding of the Yorkshire Dales National Park area, with the aim to improve biodiversity and create a flourishing haven for woodland animals, including red squirrels and birds. Snaizeholme is part of the Woodland Trust’s ambitious plan to establish England’s largest new native woodland and is set to become the flagship project for the charity, which is celebrating its 50th birthday this year. Pip Greensmith, Head of Partnerships for the Woodland Trust, said: “The Woodland Trust’s vision for Snaizeholme will restore an entire ecosystem, lock up carbon for years to come, and help mitigate flooding in the catchment. We have an opportunity to boost biodiversity at a time when the natural world is in crisis. Woodland creation on this scale is imperative if we are to tackle the potentially catastrophic loss of nature. Transforming the landscape with sympathetic native planting, and allowing natural regeneration to occur, forms a critical part of the work of the Woodland Trust. Support from businesses like Screwfix allows this to become a reality.” In the next 12 months, with
Screwfix’s contribution, 4,000 trees will be planted in Snaizeholme.
