MADE IN BRITAIN

What is the best thing about being a Made In Britain manufacturer?

Whitefurze: There are numerous advantages to being a UK manufacturer, including being part of a long-standing history of British manufacturing heritage and design. A huge advantage is being able to react quickly to market changes and trends, developing products where required and quickly launching new designs and colours; we can do this in a way that would not be possible if we were manufacturing overseas. Recently we have been able to capitalise on changing colour trends adding new colourways into our garden range in time for the garden season.

Makita: Quality is our key. British manufacturing has always adopted quality before quantity and, whilst this has not always worked well in certain market places, without question, in the professional power tool industry, reliability is essential for tradesmen earning a living from their tools.

Squire: For Squire, the benefits are about quality, service and performance. We can offer variety and we are not hampered by restrictions on quantities. We have complete control over products made in Britain, which are not only better quality, they are also renowned for better performance. Importantly, we are able offer innovative products in line with market needs because we are close to the market and can react quickly.

What one message would you give to retailers in the home improvement industry today?

Squire: Above all, ensure your products are the best quality and you meet the promises you make. Make your products the easiest to choose and offer your customers real value for money.

Whitefurze: The bottom line is that buying British makes sense. British manufacturers are here to stay and provide a home-grown supply option. A growing number of consumers now actively seek-

out British made products and UK manufacturers are able to provide retailers with a stability in terms of supply, stock and quality.

Makita: Be confident in the knowledge that your long term sales success will be achieved through stocking and selling quality products from recognised brands, and that your customers

will return if your products are reliable and deliver performance. There may be cheaper options but question their value. If you have a Made in Britain product, be proud to wave the flag. The Brexit future will give the market and the UK customers more loyalty to UK manufactured goods and to brands that invest in UK manufacture and employees.

John Squire: “We have complete control over products made in Britain, which are not only better quality, they are also renowned for better performance.”
