DIY WEEK AWARDS 2019 AWARDS 2019

SUPPLIER SHORTLIST REVEALED

Judging for the supplier categories in the DIY Week Awards has now taken place and the shortlist of products in line for an accolade can now be revealed.

Judges convened last week at the Dulux Decorating Academy at Akzo Nobel’s UK head office in Slough, to discuss the entries and test out products. It was a fun day and everyone managed to get hands-on with the huge array of products put forward this year. There were some tough decisions to be made across a host of great entries and our stellar judging panel stood firm in their brief; judging the products in each category against a criteria of innovation, quality, function and price.

A

total of 29 products have been named as finalists across 10 categories, which you will find detailed over the next four pages.

L-R: Paul Andrews, Vicky Nuttall, Steve Guy, Paul Warren, Matt James, Paul Garland, Shuf Shah, Gary Hayman, and Mike Farrants

Our judging panel this year comprised: • Paul Andrews, DIY Product Manager, Home Hardware Southwest • Mike Farrants, Buyer, Wyevale Garden Centres • Paul Garland, Associate Buyer – DIY & garden, QVC UK • Steve Guy, Head of Sales – outdoor market director, B&Q • Gary Hayman, Group Buyer, Capital Gardens • Matt James, Buyer, Homebase • Vicky Nuttall, Director, Garden Industry Manufacturers Association • Shufquat Shah, Senior Trader, Robert Dyas (Theo Paphitis Retail Group) • Paul Warren, Owner, Broad Street DIY

The whole day went smoothly, thanks very much to our hosts, and after much deliberation, the panel finally settled on the shortlist you will find overleaf. Akzo Nobel customer business manager Alan Avery said: “We were delighted to support the DIY Week Awards by hosting the judging panel again at our market-leading Dulux Academy in Slough. As a company, innovation is at the forefront of what we do, which is why we welcome events like the DIY Week Awards, which put the spotlight on inspiring new launches. Having the judges onsite, also gave us the opportunity to showcase our award-winning training facilities.” The overall winners in each category will be announced at the 2019 DIY Week Awards luncheon on Friday, May 10 at the Tower Hotel in London, along with a Judges’ Choice accolade to be awarded to the product that our judges felt stood head and shoulders above the rest.

• Judging for the retailer categories, will take place later this month, with the finalists revealed in the March 8 issue.
