The DIY Week team is getting ready to head off to Barcelona for the Global DIY Summit this week and we are looking forward to finding out about the exciting trends in our industry, as well as hearing from leading international retail businesses, as they share best practises and how they are adapting to meet change in retail and the home improvement market.


presentations and discussions on the ‘next DIY generation’, so we can hopefully report back with a host of new ideas and opportunities for your business. After a fortnight that’s been punctuated by a raft of store closures, CVAs and businesses entering administration, it will be nice to spend time focusing on the positives of our industry and what the high street, and retail sector as a whole, can do to survive and thrive. With talk of so many jobs on the line and shaky futures – or just a dead end – for a number of these businesses, I think I just want to find some light amongst the doom and gloom.

When I was at this event last year, Britain cast its vote for Brexit, which was a shock for many of the delegates (including a large proportion of the Brits). As you can imagine, it was a very interesting place to be amongst representatives from so many international companies when that result was announced. There were certainly some lively debates to be had.


Whilst I’m not expecting any such landscape-changing headlines at the Summit this year, there has certainly been enough going on in the UK and global home improvement market to provide food for thought and plenty to talk about.
