ETIM UK plugs into the data conversation
Travis Parkins expands in Worksop
Builderrs merchant Travis Perkins is set to relocate to a bigger site from its current Worksop address. The new branch will open on the 11th of July with the vision being the first choice for trade customers in Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire.
ETIM UK, the strategic alli- ance between the Builders Merchants Federation and the Electrical Distributors’ Association took part in a panel discussion at Digital Construction Week 2022. The expert panellists, rep- resenting both the building materials and electrotechni- cal sectors, discussed ‘The Golden Thread: the role of merchants, distributors and wholesalers’, and called for a more joined up approach to product data, possibly man- dated by an overseeing com- missioner, and its importance not only for building security but also for carbon reduc- tion initiatives.
ETIM is the tried and tested data standard for technical product data adopted by the BMF since 2019 for building materi- als, HVAC and plumbing products, and the EDA since 2017 for electrotechnical products.
Chaired by Fergus Har- radence, Deputy Director, Infrastructure and Construc- tion at the Department for Business, Energy and Indus- trial Strategy, the panellists were: Edgar Aponte, CEO, Rexel UK Ltd; David Wil- liams, VP Marketing UK and Ireland, Schneider Electric Ltd; Phil Thompson, Procure- ment Data Manager, NG Bailey; Rob Barbour, Data and Insights Director, Travis Perkins and Margaret Fitzsi- mons, CEO, EDA.

The existing eight-strong team will transfer to the new site, and Travis Perkins has recruited an extra eight colleagues for full-time positions, making a total of 16. The new Worksop branch is two acres in size and as part of Travis Perkins’ new ambitions to reduce carbon emissions by 90%, the site will include electric forklift trucks
and electric charging points. These innovations will help to deliver on its ambition of decarbonizing its fleet and becoming a net-zero carbon producer.
The site also has a Hire Service that allows customers to hire tools, plant and equipment and more. Furthermore, its brand new Benchmarx kitchen display showroom offers a wide range of high-quality kitchen ranges, and a hard landscaping display, increasing Travis Perkins’ offering to customers.
As well as stocking bricks, the branch will be offering an extended range in the yard,
Stelrad performs ahead of expectations
Stelrad Group plc, the manufacturer and distributor of steel panel radiators in the UK, Europe and Turkey, has performed slightly ahead of management expectations so far this year. A trading update ahead of the AGM yesterday (May 16th), reported that, while overall volumes are lower year-on-year against very strong comparators, this softening has been more than offset by improved margins, enhanced by cost management actions and an improved mix of premium steel panel radiators. The Group continues to manage inflationary cost increases and avoid any adverse impact from supply chain dynamics through its well established
supplier relationships. Trevor Harvey, Chief Executive of Stelrad, said: “The Group continues to trade well thanks to our brand strength and well- established relationships with major distributors and specifiers. As energy prices continue to place pressure on households, our products remain central to how consumers across Europe heat homes and reduce energy consumption while governments continue to debate how best to decarbonise and meet long-term net zero carbon commitments. We are confident in our strategy and ability to continue growing our market share both organically and through M&A as we address this important trend.”
including timber, blocks, drainage and lintels.
Additionally, the branch offers a fast and convenient one hour Click & Collect service and next day delivery as well as a Branch Delivery Tracking Service, which gives customers the best possible delivery notifications in real-time without having to make a telephone call, saving customers time.
Branch manager Russell Kemp says: “We’re really excited about the move to a bigger site. We’re doing what matters for the trade in Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire and this branch will have everything they need.”
Forterra freezes factory plans
Brick and block manufacturer Forterra has put the brakes on its £27m refurbishment of the Wilnecote brick factory. The company has blamed global supply chain issues, which mean things like semi-conductors and chips used in the robotic equipment are in short supply. “The factory is now expected to close at the end of September 2022 rather than at the end of June 2022, with the duration of the project remaining unchanged and the factory due to close for a 12-month period,” a statement in a trading update said, at the same time as confirming that brick prices rose 12% on April 1 and 16% in January.
