BMI Redland spends £6.3m on Rosemary plant

Roofing specialist BMI UK & Ireland has completed a major £6.3 million refurbishment of its Redland clay tile plant and kiln, with production now back underway following five months of planned maintenance. The investment has modernised the site’s Rosemary kiln and production processes, enhancing operational efficiency, product quality and manufacturing resilience, while supporting the long-term future of UK clay tile production.

The refurbishment required more than 33,000 contact hours to complete and included improvements in the plant’s automation and product handling capabilities.

The refurbished kiln also features upgraded gas and control equipment to help production keep pace with modern demand, while the kiln entrance was also repainted and fitted with upgraded kit and hydraulics.

Building materials supplier Heidelberg Materials UK has agreed planning conditions with Somerset Council to reopen Westdown quarry, near Frome. The 160 million tonne limestone quarry has been

Once fully operational the quarry will focus on supplying local demand. The approved Westdown quarry scheme sees the quarry limited to within its former boundary and includes the retention of hedgerows and woodland on the edge of the site.
