woodware Natural textures

While the kitchen is primarily a functional space, that doesn’t mean that it can’t be beautiful as well. Here, the versatility of natural wood can come into its own. Meeting the growing demand for natural products, the kitchen is the obvious place to introduce woodware accessories - providing texture, style and detail. From natural wood chopping, serving and presentation boards to serving bowls, platters, tablemats, coasters, utensils and salt & pepper mills... Jenny Handley, head of marketing at T&G Woodware, shares her insights with Housewares readers.

wood’s defence mechanism works, but seemingly the bacteria are sucked into the porous surface and ‘strangled’ by the anti- microbial chemicals with which living trees protect themselves.

T

he kitchen is the heart of the home, for culinary creativity and so much more. The kitchen is

where multiple textures sit side by side, and the space should place a premium on function as much as form. The subtle natural colours of wood can lift a table setting, create a modern feel in the kitchen or create a sense of glamour. Add interest and texture to a tabletop for large gatherings, introduce natural wood sharing platters for an al fresco feel, or for more formal settings, choose dark rich acacia with the subtle accents of warm gold - such as T&G’s featured ‘Deco’ range. The beauty of natural wood is that it pairs elegantly with any colour palette, and is therefore timeless. Selecting wood tablemats and coasters adds warm tones to a table. A sustainable resource Woodware is a rich resource and has been valued for centuries as a versatile and durable material, especially for use in the kitchen. Organic and sustainable materials like wood are powerful tools for grounding us in nature. As interior trends turn to natural and sustainable materials, consumers are ever more conscious of the importance of sustainability, and this is being reflected in purchasing habits. The FSC® logo on products provides the consumer with an independent guarantee that the forest is managed according to agreed social, environmental and economic standards. T&G has held FSC® accreditation since 1999 and has over 80 products that carry FSC® certification Consumers are also moving towards

purchases that last. Wood is man’s oldest resource, a sustainable material and a functional material. Looked after properly, each piece will last. As we move towards eco-friendly habits, a greater emphasis is being placed on natural products for use in the home. All woodware benefits from being looked after: regularly oiling natural wood boards maintains the look of the board, means it will last longer and prevents it from being a single-use

item, therefore protecting the environment further. T&G has a food safe wood oil, perfect for preserving, protecting and caring for wood in the kitchen.
