ith the plastic packaging tax coming into force from 1 April, BHETA’s ongoing series of webinar events aim to update its members on all relevant
aspects of the tax, including legal position, specific retailer requirements and potential solutions and strategies for member companies.
The series kicked off on 1 April with an update from BHETA business service provider, Wastepack. The legislation now in force sets out the base line that most packaging that has less than 30% recycled content is subject to a tax levy of £200 per tonne.
On 3 May, one month on from the start of the tax, Paul Van Danzig, policy director of Wastepack, provided an overview of what changed, how the tax is working and how it may affect individual businesses.
BHETA is set to follow up on these events on 24 May with a webinar with Tesco’s Senior Packaging Manager, Paul Earnshaw, looking at how the retailer is implementing its own packaging strategy.
BHETA’s marketing manager, Steve Richardson commented, “Sustainability is a critical topic from every point of view and packaging solutions are a big part of the solution, and of the debate. In other words it is vital for all suppliers to get packaging right for the future and this series of events, of which there will be more, is an excellent way for BHETA members to ensure they are up to speed, and ideally ahead of the game.”
While these are BHETA member-only events, non-members who would like to attend can contact BHETA for more information.
