talking shop Fledging cookshop takes flight
Owner Lisa Taylor gives a progress report on Brambles Cookshop, which opened in the Cheshire village of Audlem last September
Thanks also to our fellow traders in the village for the laughs as well as the support. And a big thank you too to the new friends we’ve made: your words of wisdom and ideas have been most appreciated. We will continue to bring iconic brands to Audlem. We
recently added Emma Bridgewater to our collections which include Le Creuset, Cornishware, Joseph Joseph, Smeg, Sophie Allport, KitchenCraft, Flint & Flame, Hinchcliffe & Barber, and ICTC. We still have a selection from smaller companies too such as Lucy Green Designs and Bakedin (cake mixes). A recent addition is Sam Wilson Studios [a luxury homeware brand inspired by the British countryside, specialising in fine bone china, textile products and prints] which has featured in ‘Country Living’ magazine. Sam’s designs are very popular as they appeal to
customers who have country kitchens. Her items currently adorn our cow-shaped shelving unit [pictured bottom left], made from pallets, which is in the corner near the window (we are surrounded by dairy farms!). Our best-selling product? Number one is the
W
hat an exciting nine months we’ve had here at Brambles Cookshop! We’ve packed so much in, and the amount of
shoppers, well-wishers and new friends we’ve made has really helped our fledgling business fly. As we continue to grow, both in our retail shop and online shop at
www.bramblescookshop.com, we wanted to take a breath and thank everyone who has assisted and helped us exceed all our expectations. We can honestly say that we’ve not met one single
awkward customer - quite the opposite in fact. Every person who has entered our shop - local, not so local and visitors alike - has been so friendly and a pleasure to serve. There must be something in the water round these parts!
Cornishware Audlem Mug (£15), followed by Joseph Joseph Helix Garlic Press (£12), Le Creuset Stoneware Cafetière (£55), Sophie Allport hob cover (£13), and KitchenCraft World Of Flavours bamboo parmesan grater (£18). We continue to offer personalised items made to order, such as Cornishware products and Flint & Flame knives and oak knife blocks, with etching and engraving. And we now have gift vouchers, while wedding lists
are in planning mode. We’ve run a couple of demo events in-store as well, including sugar crafts and knife skills, and will do more this year. When we first opened (Housewares Magazine
September 2017), I said my biggest challenge would be to engage online customers – and I’m happy to report that we’re pleased with progress so far. Sales are building and we have a very high repeat
customer rate, which means that once customers find us online and buy from us, they are pleased with the service. But the ongoing challenge, as always, is to attract new customers.
