How Viega is protecting the past for future generations
V
iega, a specialist in press connection technology, is helping preserve the UK’s most treasured landmarks with press systems trusted in sensitive heritage environments.
From the British Library and Banqueting House to the National Gallery, Queen’s House,
and National Maritime Museum, Viega’s press systems are delivering reliable performance while protecting historic structures. With no hot works, fast installation, and German-engineered precision, Viega helps contractors meet strict regulations without delay or disruption. “As a fi fth-generation family business, we understand the importance of long-term thinking,” says Drew Clough, Marketing Manager, Viega UK. “Our press technology delivers not just performance - but peace of mind in buildings that have stood for centuries.”
The UK government recently announced a £270 million investment in arts, museums, and heritage sites., Over £30 million has been allocated for vital maintenance and infrastructure upgrades, therefore the need for systems which are proven to protect these sites is more important than ever. Viega press technology delivers a fl ame-free alternative to traditional pipe connecting methods like soldering or welding – a key requirement in heritage buildings where hot works are often prohibited. Viega’s solutions, including Megapress, Profi press, Viega Smartpress, and Sanpress Inox, support safe and long-term upgrades across both public and private sectors. Drew said: “Protecting heritage means using systems that are proven, precise, and built to last.”

Ideal Heating Commercial takes extra care with the heat network at Huddersfi eld specialist housing development
I
deal Heating Commercial POD Heat Interface Units (HIUs) and Evomax 2 condensing boilers have been installed into Ash View Extra Care in Huddersfi eld as part of a heat network designed to heat the 50 one-and two-bedroom fl ats and communal areas, along with hot water, at this new development for Kirklees Council.
Four Evomax 2 100kW wall-mounted boilers were supplied in cascade as the energy centre and 50 POD HIUs with fi rst fi x kits and factory fi tted hard wired Mbus heat meters.
Evomax 2 has up to 99.6% full load effi ciency and up to 110% part load
effi ciency. It can operate at up to 30° ∆ T, and boasts a high turndown of 5:1. The four Evomax 2 boilers are running in cascade on a standard height frame and header kit delivering 400kW of output for an energy effi cient solution, as the cascade can turn down to accurately match any load from 400 - 20kW (20:1). This method also increases the proportion of time where the boilers are modulating at part load, instead of cycling on and off , to satisfy the changing demands of the network.
The POD HIU looks just like a domestic combi boiler, but uses heat exchangers to transfer thermal energy from the distribution network. It can readily fi t in a kitchen or airing cupboard or existing utility area.
