Breathing Buildings off ers entire school ventilation solutions

B

reathing Buildings, a provider of controlled natural and hybrid ventilation systems, off ers schools a complete ventilation solution to enhance indoor air quality (IAQ), energy effi ciency, and sustainability.

Matthew Cooper, business development director at Breathing Buildings, says: “Ensuring a healthy learning environment

is a top priority for schools since research has shown ventilation increases the chances of better academic results, reduced absenteeism, and improved concentration. With increased fi nancial support now available, schools are investing in improved IAQ and energy effi ciency. At Breathing Buildings, we can now provide a complete range of energy effi cient ventilation, so we can off er schools the right solution for the application whether it is natural, hybrid, or mechanical ventilation.” Providing an adaptable solution for schools, Breathing Buildings’ award-winning Natural Ventilation with Heat Recycling (NVHR) range off ers hybrid ventilation, which uses both natural ventilation and mechanical ventilation in one system design. This is an ideal solution for commercial buildings with high heat gains such as schools, colleges, leisure centres, offi ces, theatres and even churches. Breathing Building off ers lunch and learn sessions, as well as a more formal, CIBSE accredited CPD on meeting the requirements of BB101: Guidelines on ventilation, thermal comfort and indoor air quality in schools and TM52: The Limits of Thermal Comfort; Avoiding Overheating. Listed London school achieves carbon reduction through heat pump installation

T

he listed Victorian Gothic Revival ‘Riverside School’ situated along the Thames, has implemented a comprehensive decarbonisation project, featuring the Mitsubishi Electric 2*40kW CAHV and a 40kW QAHV heat pump units connected to K-con thermal and potable water vessels.

In collaboration with Kooltech, mechanical services contractor HOB Mechanical Services engineered a bespoke solution to address two primary challenges: space constraints within the designated plant room and to mitigate noise in a densely populated residential area Kooltech facilitated the integration of its K-con product range,

specifi cally tailored thermal storage vessels. Two custom-fabricated, stainless steel cladded vessels were externally situated freeing up internal plant room space that houses the installation of two 255L stainless domestic hot water cylinders connected to the QAHV heat pump units. To mitigate noise pollution, acoustic enclosures were incorporated into the design, achieving an additional 8dBA reduction from the CAHV ASHP units. This, coupled with the CAHV units’ integrated noise reduction capabilities, ensured minimal disruption to the community. Luke Edwards, contracts manager at HOB Mechanical Services, said: “Working with Kooltech meant we found a solution to meet the stringent needs for this project.”

The project culminated in the successful installation of a high-

effi ciency heating and hot water decarbonisation system, adhering to stringent noise reduction parameters. www.kooltech.co.uk

Stelrad sees success for ‘Green Compact’ radiator series

S

telrad Radiators continues to off er low carbon-emissions steel radiators, with an excellent response so far. Stelrad customers can choose a Green Compact radiator range that contributes directly to a reduction in atmospheric CO2

emissions today and accelerates decarbonisation in the future. The Green Compact comes with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). An EPD transparently reports objective, comparable and third-party verifi ed data about products’ environmental performance over the lifecycle of the radiator. This guarantees a thorough and verifi able declaration in line with the ISO 14025 standard for environmental labels and declarations. The steel utilised in the manufacture of these Green Compact radiators is XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel, which is made in an electric arc furnace with high recycled content and 100% renewable electricity. Using this low-emissions steel results in a 66% reduction in CO2 emissions per tonne of steel, compared with using the same product made via the conventional steelmaking process.

Stelrad’s head of marketing Chris Harvey says: “Continuing our move towards greener manufacturing and providing better information through the Green Compact EPD fi ts in perfectly with our Group’s sustainability policy. The Stelrad Green Series comprises of 60 horizontal models from our Green Compact range. The concept is already being well received by many of our customers who are keen to see more sustainable products being utilised in their homes and buildings.
