Finding the right alternative

lternative fuel systems and hybrid heating look set to play a pivotal role in the future of heating.

Hybrid systems combine the benefits of

different heating sources, for example a gas boiler and a heat pump, to maximise energy efficiency and reduce overall heating costs. Significantly they offer a best-of-both- worlds solution as a hybrid system can typically run a heating system for a large chunk of the year with a boiler picking up the shortfall and delivering hot water. Alternative fuels – biomass, biogas, and biofuels such as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) – could equally play an important role as they have lower carbon emissions and, used for heating, can help reduce carbon footprint and promote environmental sustainability. The subjects are expertly addressed by

Worcester Bosch’s director of technical services Martyn Bridges on pg 24 and Custom Heat MD Lincoln Smith on pg 30. As far as alternative heating systems go,

infrared is an option that is fast becoming popular in warehouses and depots, as it’s easy to install and energy efficient. See how well this worked for a Bishop Stortford warehouse, on Pg 23.

orcester Bosch has launched its CS5800i Hybrid Heat Pump. Promising year-round, low-carbon comfort, the product offers

homeowners the instant heat, control and comfort they are used to by allowing a heat pump and boiler to work seamlessly together - with the aim to increase adoption of the low-carbon technology. Co-created with installers input and built for speed and simplicity, the new product pairs the CS5800i heat pump with the intelligent CS5800i Hybrid Unit. By harnessing natural energy for everyday heating needs and seamlessly switching to a boiler for extra warmth during chilly spells or the colder months, the CS5800i Hybrid Heat Pump is said to deliver electrified heating without losing convenience. Designed for hassle-free installation without the need for extensive system upgrades, the product represents a significant step forward in responsible home heating solutions. By combining efficiency, versatility, and ease of use this is described as a future-flexible heating solution that meets the demands of today while paving the way for tomorrow. David Ford, director at F&P Plumbing & Heating,

said: “The new CS5800i Hybrid Heat Pump brings a new form of innovation to the home heating market. The design allows the low loss header to be installed to the rear of the boiler and in an external wall, eliminating any space issues when installing. We feel

Quick and easy low-carbon comfort with hybrid heat pump

this makes the CS5800i Hybrid Heat Pump a more viable option than a heat pump for the UK market.” Martyn Bridges, Director of Technical Services at

Worcester Bosch, said: “The way we heat our homes needs to be flexible if we are to reach our Net Zero targets. Heat pumps will certainly play a huge part in this, however many homeowners are put off by the disruption and cost retrofitting properties to accommodate the technology. “This is where hybrid systems can make their

mark. By combining a heat pump with a boiler homeowners will see less disruption and also won’t need to adapt to a new way of heating their homes.” For more information visit https://www.worcester- bosch.co.uk/professional/CS5800i-hybrid
