ACV UK announces new CIBSE approved CPD
A
CV UK, hot water and heating specialist, has announced the launch of its new CIBSE approved CPD training module, ‘Factors driving material selection for hot water storage products’. Split into easy-to-read sections, the new CPD looks at water composition, how this can vary between regions and the effects it can have on materials commonly used in the manufacture of hot water tanks. It also covers the different types of corrosion and how this can trigger and manifest.
Discussing how factors such as careful product and material selection can help to minimize these risks, the new CPD explores the different product materials available, along with their benefits and drawbacks, and how these compare to each other when it comes to the performance of domestic hot water products in commercial applications. Market drivers such as regulations and costs are also addressed. Suitable for anyone involved in the management of domestic hot water in commercial buildings, including consultants, contractors and specifiers, this new 45–60-minute long CPD can be delivered in person, either at a customer’s premises or at any of our Expert Academy training facilities, or online.

The MECH-iF – the
future of high efficiency air cooled chillers
M
itsubishi Electric has launched an air-cooled chiller with a new proprietary single screw compressor to offer greater energy efficiency and high reliability for a longer operating life. The MECH-iF range offers capacities from 345kW to 921kW and is available with R1234ze (G04) or R513A (G05) refrigerant and brand-new proprietary screw variable speed compressors.
MECH-iF is a milestone in the company’s air-cooled screw chiller portfolio, paving the way for the development and integration of proprietary core technologies. This high efficiency air cooled chiller is the first screw compressor chiller to use the new MS variable speed screw compressor with an external inverter, both developed exclusively by Mitsubishi Electric. “Mitsubishi Electric has over 35 years’ experience in developing single screw compressors,” explains Matthew Philo, UK Product Manager for MECH-iF. “We’ve used that knowledge to create a single screw design that can be at the heart of the MECH-iF, to deliver best-in-class efficiencies, ideal for the comfort and process market.”
The MS Compressor is designed with Symmetrical Compression Load for reduced and balanced loads to ensure bearing lifetime of over 150,000 hours (17.5 years). All bearings are in low-pressure regions which means they can be lubricated without the need of an oil pump, thus ensuring a better durability of the compressor’s operation.

CIBSE approved CPD modules expanded with new hot water series
H
amworthy Heating has expanded its market leading CIBSE approved Continuous Professional Development (CPD) portfolio with the launch of three new learning modules, as part of its latest hot water series on Domestic Hot Water (DHW) Best Practise. ‘Module 1: DHW Design and Practical Solutions’ looks at different project types and discusses the key considerations for both refurb and new build commercial projects. Participants will gain valuable insight into various design priorities and constraints, before exploring the different practical DHW systems and solutions available. In ‘Module 2: DHW Safety, Legislation and Incentives’ participants expand their knowledge of DHW safety and water treatment. Discussing the risks and effects of scale (limescale) and legionella (Legionnaires Disease), this CPD seminar looks at water composition and the most suitable methods available when it comes to the performance of domestic hot water products in commercial applications. Market drivers such as legislation, flue regulations and financial incentives are also addressed.
The highly topical ‘DHW sizing’ CPD is the third module available in the latest hot water CPD series from Hamworthy Heating. Covering what to consider when sizing hot water usage, this module discusses how to estimate the demand profile of a building (with illustrated examples) and calculate DHW peak demand. It also looks at how to calculate the capability of various solutions to meet these demands.
