aikin Applied UK has announced the release of a new range of water- to-water heat pumps based on its existing EW*T-Q-X-A1 range. Now available, the new EW*T-Q-X-A1 features a new modular approach to system design, which introduces additional flexibility in configuration. Breaking away from the more traditional ‘package’ solution, the modular approach allows the required capacity to be reached by combining smaller units piped together and controlled as a single one. Modular construction offers significant benefits in siting and installation, making units easier to transport, handle and position up to a fully plug & play solution by including the Daikin Manifold Kit and Pump module.
The new water sourced EW*T-Q-X-A1 heat pumps can ensure heating or cooling operation under many different conditions. Hot water can be produced up to +60°C; whilst chilled water is supplied in the range from -15°C (water-glycol mixture) to +30 °C evaporator leaving water temperature.
Hence, the range of applications that can be covered is wide and including comfort heating, space and process cooling, heat recovery. Composed of three base modules offering 100, 125 and 160kW capacities, the range features scroll compressors and is available in two sound versions including a reduced sound variant which is suitable for outdoor installation and noise sensitive applications as condominiums, hotels and hospitals.

Fujitsu’s new controller is better by design
F
ujitsu General Air Conditioning UK is introducing a sleek new local controller for Airstage systems designed to blend seamlessly with any installation space.
A Good Design Award winner in 2022 and selected as a finalist in the 2023 IDEA awards, the UTY-RVRY model is mounted on a frosted panel and uses mirrors and glass to create a unique floating appearance which complements the interior design. Information is only visible during operation, with the controller appearing as a mirror at other times. Coloured LED lighting indicates different modes of operation and the light can be switched off to eliminate glare at night, making it an ideal option for hotel rooms. The screen can also display branding or corporate logos when not in use; images are sent via Bluetooth and saved in the flash memory built into each controller.
The controller is intuitive to use, with swipe motions rather than buttons. The screen is resistant to smears due to an anti-fingerprint coating and offers exceptional visibility from any angle.
Multiple controllers can be programmed via a Bluetooth connection from a smartphone, using the AIRSTAGE Remo Set, a free app for technicians to set up wired controllers. Settings from a controller can be downloaded, adjusted or copied to another unit, making installation of similar systems or indoor units quicker and easier.

Rapid-fit Mapeheat Membrane Maxi joins Mapei range
M
apei has introduced new Mapeheat Membrane Maxi – a waterproofing, uncoupling anti-fracture heating membrane. Suitable for electric underfloor heating systems – as well as tile and stone installations – the patented membrane promotes a fast, easy installation of tile and stone in bathrooms, shower rooms, kitchens and living areas. It can also be used as a substrate for mosaic tile, wood and resilient floors. Featuring a light-weight construction and thin profile, Mapeheat Membrane Maxi is suitable for multiple sized cables – from 2mm to 5.5mm – and helps prevent transmission of in-plane substrate cracks up to 3mm. Heating cables are easy to install and minimal roll memory helps to promote a rapid, flat and secure installation. In addition to new builds, the membrane’s thin profile also works well in remodelling projects, where flooring can be installed above an original surface. Once heating cables are set within Mapeheat Membrane Maxi’s reliefs, tile adhesive or levelling/smoothing compound can be applied immediately. When installing with ceramic tiles, the use of a minimum class C2 EN 12004 adhesive is recommended.
For a complete underfloor heating solution, Mapei’s range also includes Mapeheat, with technology from nVent RAYCHEM. The Mapeheat system comprises three components: NEW Mapeheat Membrane Maxi, Mapeheat Cable and Mapeheat Mesh, used in conjunction with three thermostat options. Mapeheat’s thin profile and waterproof construction make it suitable for all internal environments.
