MODUTHERM

The owners of a five-bedroom Essex barn conversion turned to Modutherm and its sustainable Alira air source heat pump when they wanted to replace an ageing boiler.

The RHI-compliant installation highlights the flexibility and adaptability of the Alira range and how the latest heat pump technology can be effectively utilised in larger properties. Thanks to the use of R290 natural refrigerant within the Alira unit, the heat pump is CO2 neutral – eliminating any damage to the ozone layer.

For the property’s DHW requirements, the owners opted to install a new 300 litre Juniper XL stainless steel heat pump-ready cylinder, alongside Modutherm’s wall mounted Hydraulic Module. The owner said: “We have been really impressed with the new heat pump and how easy it was to install. The system has been working efficiently, even during some cold winter snaps. It’s certainly been worth the investment, especially with the RHI available to support the installation costs.

CARRIER

Carrier has introduced the AquaForce Vision 30KAV with PUREtec refrigerant, a new line of high-performance, compact process cooling chillers with ultra-low GWP refrigerant R-1234ze.

The new chiller line is optimised for industrial processing such as food manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, plastics, metal industries and applications requiring ultra-reliable cooling up to -12˚C. Carrier’s AquaForce Vision 30KAV air-cooled, variable-speed screw chillers can minimise energy consumption and impact on the environment while maximising performance and ease of installation and maintenance. The chiller is available in four sizes, in capacities from 280 kW to 800 kW into -4˚C/-8˚C medium temperature process cooling and from 530 kW to 1300 kW into 12/7˚C high-temperature process cooling or comfort cooling. Carrier’s William Doll said: “The new chiller delivers high seasonal energy efficiency, a low environmental footprint, excellent reliability, safe operation and a very low total cost of ownership over its lifetime.” www.carrier.com

BREATHING BUILDINGS

Breathing Buildings has supplied a ventilation system to a newbuild office development, Oceansgate, in Plymouth.

Twenty four Breathing Buildings NVHR 900 units were installed. In addition, external weather louvres were glazed into the curtain walling system. Breathing Buildings worked with mechanical contractors Murch & Baker and the main contractor Kier Construction, to assist on the design. They carried out thermal modelling using in-house design software, 4D-Flo, and Breathing Buildings modelled the design to CIBSE Guide A / TM52 summer overheating criteria, using the typical CIBSE DSY weather file for Plymouth. This helped ensure a comfortable working environment as well as good IAQ. Paul Murch, director at Murch & Baker said: “The ventilation systems are providing a healthy office environment, that monitors and manages CO2 levels as well as providing good IAQ and comfortable temperatures year-round.”

COMBAT

Combat Heating Solutions has introduced U-Tube radiant heat configuration as part of its radiant tube heating range.

The U-Tube radiant heater has reduced wiring costs due to the proximity of the fan to the burner. Additional heater features include effective deep- dish aluminium reflectors (stainless steel optional) and durable, heat-treated aluminised tube.

This negative pressure unitary heater offers linear, double linear or u-tube configurations. These heaters can be designed with multiple burners per pump to ease. The double linear radiant heater has reduced building penetrations due to a single fan.

With a wide range of burner inputs and tube lengths, complete low- intensity, unitary radiant heaters can be ideal for vehicle service centres, auto body repair shops, manufacturing facilities and offer flexibility where only small areas of a building require direct heat. The gentle even heat results in an efficient and effective gas-fired, low intensity, radiant heating system.

CARLO GAVAZZI

Carlo Gavazzi has launched a range of variable frequency drives. The RVPM is designed for HVAC applications to meet the efficiency regulations set by the standard EN14825.

Minimum energy performance requirements (MEPS) for heat pumps have demanded the use of variable speed scroll compressors to meet the required performance (SCOP, SEER) levels and well-chosen components can have a decisive impact on a product’s overall efficiency. The RVPM is a variable frequency drive (VFD) for rotary and scroll compressors with permanent magnet (PM), brush¬less direct current (BLDC) and induction (IM) motors.

It is equipped with both a sensor-less vector control (SLVC) for PM/ BLDC compressors and a variable-voltage and frequency (V/f) control for IM compressors. Individual compressor models are pre-configured, and a minimal set of parameters are required resulting in an easy and fast configuration. It is designed with either a heatsink or cold plate for heat dissipation. www.carlogavazzi.co.uk

CONDAIR

Condair has appointed Darren Bryant as its new area sales manager for the South East of England. Having worked at Condair for 12 years, Darren moves from his previous role of service sales manager. Darren commented: “I am very happy to have taken on the area sales manager position, across both humidifiers and dehumidifiers, and am now responsible for much of the south east of England, from Kent to Suffolk, including East London. I’m looking forward to getting to know our customers in these regions, and helping them improve their productivity and working environments through enhanced humidity control. It will also be great to be back in front of clients, providing CPD training, either in- house or online.”

David Marshall-George, UK sales director at Condair, commented: “It’s great to have Darren join our UK sales team. He is very experienced in all aspects of humidification, and brings with him superb application knowledge from his service-related sales work at Condair.” www.condair.co.uk
