Hamworthy Heating provides Cambridge Primary School with new Tyneham Heat Pump cascade installation

T

wo Tyneham 290HT 27kW air source heat pumps from Hamworthy Heating have been installed in cascade for underfl oor heating in a new extension at a primary school in Cambridge. To accurately meet the heating requirements of the new school extension and ensure an even distribution of heat, the new system from Hamworthy Heating includes two 290HT 27kW Tyneham heat pumps with natural refrigerant, confi gured in a hydraulic cascade set up. The heat pumps are connected to a 500L buff er cylinder, which also features an electrical heating element, controlled by a BMS. The buff er connections, Exogel anti-freeze valves and degassers were also supplied by Hamworthy Heating.

This cascade arrangement allows for the heat capacity to be equally distributed according to the specifi c heating demands of the new school building. Rather than rely on a larger single heat pump that could run ineffi ciently at partial load, the new cascade set up enables the units, which have inverter-controlled compressors, to adjust their capacities as needed which will enable the school to achieve a more accurate match to its actual heating demand and optimise performance.

Additionally, as the new system can adjust to keep the heat pumps operating at their most effi cient state, cycling of heat pumps and unnecessary energy consumption is avoided. The new system now supplies the new building with uninterrupted heating. www.hamworthy-heating.com/

Nuaire ventilation systems now with Passivhaus certifi cation

N

uaire has achieved Passivhaus certifi cation on its BPS Passivhaus air handling units (AHU) and XBC Passivhaus packaged heat recovery units. BPS Passivhaus is a range of high specifi cation packaged AHUs designed and engineered to provide an effi cient, high performing, compact solution for a multitude of applications. Effi ciency comes from a dual compressor system that uses less energy than one single large compressor, a high effi ciency thermal wheel, and minimal air leakage. They feature a high quality double lined acoustic end panel insulated with Rockwool for reduced noise breakout and low leakage, ensuring the unit is airtight. They feature M5 extract air fi lters, enabling pollutants as small as 1 micron to be captured, and G4 and G7 supply air fi lters which are designed to stop larger pollutant particles from entering.

With a plate heat exchanger with effi ciencies of up to 95%, XBC Passivhaus are high performance packaged heat recovery units designed to improve IAQ whilst saving energy. High classifi cation F7 and G4 extract fi lters have been installed to ensure the units meet the high Passivhaus air quality standards, whilst airtight seals prevent heat or air loss up to L2 leakage classifi cation. They have been designed with the lowest possible noise breakout for user acceptance, and are easy to install, commission and maintain. XBC Passivhaus is available with LPHW or electric heating options as standard, with cooling modules also available as an ancillary.

New design envelope Tango ensures uninterrupted service, even during maintenance

A

rmstrong has introduced new larger sizes of the Design Envelope Tango, a compact, low-carbon dual pump that ensures uninterrupted service, even during maintenance. The Design Envelope Tango includes two motors and two impeller assemblies in a single casing. Integrated valves can isolate one side of the pump for service, without interrupting fl ow or aff ecting

occupant comfort. New sizes are now available with motors ranging from 15 to 40 horsepower and are capable of serving applications up to 120 L/s. Design Envelope Tango is a compact solution that combines built-in parallel pumping with leading performance and reduced installation costs. Because the two rotating devices share a single casing, installation requires less piping. In addition, the Vertical In-Line orientation means the pump is installed in the piping and does not require an inertia base. Design Envelope technology includes patented Parallel Sensorless operation, increases fl ow turn-down and provides built-in fl ow metering for superior fl ow control. The energy-effi cient design of the Tango reduces operating costs by up to 80% and lifecycle costs by up to 40%. As Tango provides an eff ective alternative to full duty standby, it can also reduce embodied carbon.

The value of Design Envelope pumps is augmented by Pump Manager, a cloud-based service that provides smart analytics, diagnostics, and alerts to support HVAC system effi ciency. All Armstrong 360 Service and Support programs optimise the lifetime performance of HVAC systems. armstrongfl uidtechnology.com

EDGE PRO, the new high performance residential heat pump

C

livet has launched EDGE PRO the innovative air-to-water packaged heat pump from 4 to 16 kW.

Described as the ideal solution for new buildings and renovations, thanks to the ALTODesign aesthetics, the solution is versatile and sustainable for heating, cooling and domestic hot water.

The EDGE PRO heat pumps are an integral part of the Clivet Smart Living system, compatible with CONTROL4 NRG, for effi cient management of the entire apparatus. Equipped with the Smart-grid function, it operates within advanced electricity grids or in combination with photovoltaic systems. EDGE PRO (4 to 16 kW) is the new air-to-water packaged heat pump with natural refrigerant R-290 for heating, cooling and domestic hot water in residential applications, also as an alternative to traditional boilers. It has some of the widest operating limits on the market, guaranteeing reliable performance down to -25 °C outside temperature. EDGE PRO can produce water at 80 °C even with -10 °C outside air. Energy class A+++ in heating with both low temperature water (35 °C supply water) and medium temperature water (55 °C supply water). It delivers market- leading quietness.

New ALTODesign aesthetics off ers elegance and functionality. This series was awarded the prestigious iF DESIGN AWARD 2025 in the ‘Product’ discipline, category ‘1.20 Building Technology’ and of RED DOT DESIGN AWARD 2025. www.clivet.com
