Act now on indoor air quality
M
echanical ventilations systems and their crucial role in protecting our health were in the spotlight on
Clean Air Day in June. While the harmful effects of outdoor air
are accepted, the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed indoor air to the top of the agenda as building managers seek to prioritise employee wellbeing. This is especially paramount now since
a report from Global Action Plan has revealed that air pollution affects every organ in the body, not just the lungs (pg 6). With the many options available to building managers ranging, among others, from MVHR systems with automated controls; sensors; monitors; and ductwork maintenance regimes, the time to take action is now. • Meanwhile the route to getting trained up as an accredited heat pump installer is getting easier. Last month, the Heat Pump Association opened up its membership to installers in order to give them a voice and influence in shaping the industry (pg 7). It’s also gratifying to see even more manufacturers are getting on board offering schemes to help installers navigate the training and grants that are available to them (pg 28).

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JULY 29 I
n response to high industry demand, the deadline for entries in this year’s HVR Awards has been extended to Friday, July 29. The extension serves as a final opportunity for outstanding brands, companies and people across the sector to finesse their entries, gather supporting documents and put themselves in the running for a prestigious ‘flame’ trophy. Heating & Ventilating Review editor Heather Ramsden comments: “The Net Zero challenge and renewed emphasis on indoor air quality has stimulated significant innovation from the HVAC industry. We don’t want all the hard work taking place to go unnoticed. A few extra weeks will give companies a bit of breathing room to finalise their entries and get the spotlight they deserve.” This will be the only extension to the deadline, so those who wish to be in with a chance to win are encouraged to submit their entries by July 29. As entries for this year’s scheme will remain open
for now, it’s time to start preparing your submissions and gathering supporting documents to put yourself in the pole position. To enter, go to
www.hvrawards.com/enter
What happens next?
Subject to meeting the necessary criteria, all entries will proceed to the decision-making stage where they will either be reviewed by a panel of esteemed industry judges or decided by an online industry vote to open on August 1.
Welcome
The recipient of the highest number of votes or highest score from the judges in each category will be revealed as the winner at the HVR Awards ceremony taking place later this year.
