CARRIER

Carrier has introduced high-performance heat recovery and free cooling options to its AquaSnap 30RBP air-cooled scroll chiller range on lower GWP R-32 refrigerant, providing even greater energy savings and further reducing operating costs for end users. AquaSnap units also have an outstanding seasonal energy performance ratio (SEER) for cooling of up to 6.62, reducing indirect greenhouse gas emissions resulting from energy use. The latest heat recovery and free cooling options extend energy savings, further reducing greenhouse gas emissions over the lifetime of the equipment.

The heat recovery system enables chillers to produce domestic hot water up to 80˚C, while continuing to provide cooling, useful for applications such as hotels, hospitals and industrial processes requiring hot water. The free cooling option makes use of favourable ambient and load conditions, harnessing free cooling from the environment to augment or replace mechanical cooling via the chiller’s compressors, reducing energy consumption and running costs. www.carrier.com

GILBERTS

Birmingham business district’s tallest office building is 103 Colmore Row and it is also “one of the cleanest and greenest”, achieving BREEAM Excellent. Built by BAM Construct UK, the 21,000+m2 building uses 100% renewable energy for its electricity, with air conditioning & heating throughout the 26-storey tower being provided via a four pipe fan coil system.

Independent air movement specialist Gilberts worked closely with BAM and global engineering and consulting firm Arup to refine the specification of the grilles and diffusers in line with the requirement to achieve ventilation of 12l/person and a constant 22°C(±2°) throughout the Grade A offices. David Pudge, building services project manager- Midlands for BAM Construct, said: “The aim was to create a landmark building that is one of the cleanest and greenest in the city, balanced alongside providing an agile working environment.

“Gilberts gave us best value in meeting those objectives, supporting us to select the most appropriate solutions for each area.” www.gilbertsblackpool.com

COMBAT

Combat Heating Solutions has provided a replacement heating systems for Wrexham-based manufacturer Turtle Covers at its new premises.

Combat installed 2 x ELO55-105 oil fired floor standing cabinet heaters in the workshop and 1 x ELO55-105 floor standing cabinet heater in the machine shop. Both the main workshop/warehouse and sewing room were to be heated using preferred choice Kerosene.

Replacing the warm air heating system was the obvious choice for the workshop due this being adjacent to the warehouse. A decision was made to use a warm air heating system in the sewing room so that the air would circulate keeping staff warm and comfortable from head to toe, rather than using a radiant system which wouldn’t have heated the machinists feet whilst they were seated. To ensure there is minimal heat wastage de- stratification fans push warmth back down to the rear of the shop which is warehouse space. www.combat.co.uk

TITON

Titon’s HRV1.6 Q Plus MVHR unit has recently been installed in Moda Living’s Lexington Tower. Situated on the Liverpool waterfront, the new residential tower has over 325 apartments and the tower has premium features such as garden spaces, fitness studio and amenity areas. Briggs and Forester delivered the building services equipment over a 22 month period, which consisted of design, supply, installation, commissioning and included installing over 300 of Titon’s HRV1.6 Q Plus. The ultra-compact HRV 1.6 Q Plus is a high-performance MVHR unit measuring 600mm wide, enabling it to fit into tight spaces for easy installation and access. It has extremely low specific fan power (SFP) of 0.49 W/l/s and a heat exchanger offering efficiencies up to 89%, which enhances SAP performance via Appendix Q. Furthermore, despite its compact size, the lightweight HRV 1.6 Q Plus can achieve excellent flow rates of up to 100 l/s (359 m3/h) as independently tested by the BRE. www.titon.com/uk

CONDAIR

The Condair ME evaporative humidifier is helping Weatherite reduce cooling system energy consumption for its data centre and telecoms clients by up to 80%. Condair’s evaporative humidifier is providing adiabatic cooling in Weatherite’s innovative Adtec-D free air cooling unit. The Condair ME boosts the cooling capacity of the system, allowing the Adtec-D to fully replace the need for mechanical cooling in some applications.

The Adtec-D is a self-contained, modular cooling system that can be located either inside or outside of a building. In data hall or telecom environments, for most of the year it operates in free air cooling mode and uses the outside air alone to cool the internal environment. However, when the outside temperature rises to around 20°C, the Adtec-D switches to adiabatic cooling mode. The incoming air is then passed through the Condair ME, which evaporates water into the fresh air stream, cooling it by up to a further 12°C. www.condair.co.uk

TOSHIBA

Toshiba Carrier UK has rolled out the latest generation of its high- performance ESTIA air-to-water heat pumps operating on lower GWP refrigerant R-32. ESTIA provides highly efficient space heating and domestic hot water (DHW) for year-round comfort in homes and small businesses. Designed to meet demand for a lower-carbon alternative to traditional heating technologies, ESTIA units harness ambient thermal energy from outdoor air, reducing energy bills compared to some other types of units. Four models are available, spanning capacities from 4 to 11kW, with larger capacities available soon, all with reversible operation to provide cooling and heating, if required. At the heart of ESTIA is Toshiba’s award-winning twin rotary compressor, which contributes to the system’s outstanding energy efficiency rating of A+++. The compressor enables the heat pump to continue supplying hot water to the heating network even during exceptionally cold weather, delivering water at 62°C when outdoor temperatures fall to -25°C. www.toshiba-aircon.co.uk
