Cleaning the air for a clean bill of health
Eff ective ventilation is essential for good indoor air quality (IAQ) but by adding extra air purifi cation, workplaces, hotels and schools can help ensure that viruses and pollutants are extracted from the air creating a healthier environment and helping stop the spread of viruses. Tom Wodcke, product manager at Vent-Axia explains
I
ndoor air pollution impacts lung health and causes a range of health issues ranging from cardiac disease to dementia. While the importance of good IAQ has hit the headlines in relation to COVID, it’s clear that the same principles to reduce airborne COVID transmission can and should be used going forward to reduce indoor air pollution and reduce spread of other airborne illnesses. To this end, businesses are increasingly looking to air purifi cation in addition to eff ective ventilation to help ensure good IAQ and a healthier environment. The Royal Academy of Engineering report,
‘Infection Resilient Environments: Buildings that keep us healthy and safe’, looks at how we design, manage, and operate buildings and how we can
“ The need for air purifi cation is especially warranted in schools because of the extensive disruption to education
caused by lockdowns. Many schools are now using CO2 monitors, and the Government is running air purifi er trials to help improve IAQ and reduce COVID transmission.”
