OFTEC A WARDED FOR SECT OR CONTRIBUTIONS
O
FTEC received national r ecognition as ‘Effective Voice of the Year’ at the UK and Ireland Association Awards at the end of last year
Ye ar r.. The awards, organised as part of the Associations UK Congress,
showcase the achievements of trade associations that have improved or adv anced their sector.
OFTEC won the ‘Effective V oice of the Year’ award f or its work to secure a sustainable future for the oil heating industry and positively influence the debate on decarbonisation, energy efficiency and fuel poverty.
The accolade also recognises OFTEC’s lobbying to champion the interests of rural households affected by fuel poverty, which helped secur e the continued inclusion of oil heating in the new ECO3 fuel poverty scheme. The go vernment had initially sought to exclude kerosene from the policy , despite its being the cheapest fuel available to off-grid homes.
It also reflects OFTEC’s ongoing work to promote a positive c ase f or the development of a low carbon liquid fuel to directly r eplace heating oil in support of the government’s Clean Growth Strategy.
OFTEC is working closely with BEIS and has rallied support within the industry, providing an effective voice to help secure the most cost effective, pr actical solution for consumers.
OFTEC chief executive Paul Rose (pictured above, right) said: “W e are delighted to have won this award and see this excellent outcome as welc ome independent recognition for the way we have and continue to contribute and influence the agenda around decarbonisation, energy efficiency and fuel poverty.
“We will continue to highlight the strong potential for lo w carbon liquid fuels and highlight the opportunities and challenges that exist ar ound decarbonising heat in the off-grid sector.”
During the UK and Ireland Association Awards, which took plac e in Londo n on Tuesday December 18, attended b y 180 associations, OFTEC also took part in a ‘success story’ seminar session, where the organisation presente d its campaign and also shared relevant experiences and advice with a r ange of other trade bodies.
Mr Rose concluded: “Alongside our awar d win, we also had the opportunity to engage with trade associations from a broad range of industries to share the work we have been doing and discuss how we can all make a positive impact , not just within our own r espective sectors, but in society as a whole.”
