oth judging and voting are wrapping up for the HVR Awards and the countdown is beginning to the eagerly awaited event next month.


This year the Awards will be held at the Chelsea Harbour Hotel in London on September 12 with a special celebration after party planned to mark the event’s 15th anniversary. Fourteen categories have been looked at by judges, with another five decided by and online vote.


MEET THE JUDGES Richard Merritt, head of BESA’s RACHP group, has over 30 years’ industry experience starting out as an apprentice in 1992. In 2001 he took over the family business AC Solutions Group as managing director. Richard is London & South East Region chairman at BESA, chairman of BESA specialist RACHP group executive committee and chairman of the ACRIB Board. A Fellow at the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers, he is also a fellow of the Institute of Refrigeration and holds engineering technician status at the Engineering Council.


Martyn Cooper, commercial manager, FETA, joined FETA in 2015 after a 37-year career in the plastics and chemical industries. He has experience in the sales and marketing of refrigerants and as part of his position in FETA he

he new Labour government has been elected since the last issue of HVR and with that, the industry is eager to see the direction the new regime will take on key topics. Some of these are highlighted this month

JUDGING ENDS AND THE COUNTDOWN TO THE AWARDS BEGINS


manages the Heat Pump Association, and several groups in the refrigeration, HEVAC and chimney associations.


Sue Sharp, business consultant, is the former managing director of Overclean, the ventilation hygiene maintenance specialists, and is currently a director of the company. Sue is on the Executive Committee for the NAADUK and is involved in producing NAAD21, and NAAD22 guidance documents for the ventilation maintenance sector. She is BSI ventilation committee member reviewing standards within the ventilation industry. For the last 17 years, she has run her own consultancy helping smaller companies grow and improve. She has sat on numerous committees for BESA, being appointed President in 2012/13. Sue volunteers as a business mentor and has received several awards in recognition of her business achievements.


Anni Folan-White, building services engineer, joined Ingleton Wood in 2015 as an Associate to develop the Building Services Engineering team at the company’s Cambridge office and is now a Partner. She has a wide range of experience in the public and private sector and has worked diverse range of projects from healthcare and education to designing services for a redundant submarine.


Steve McConnell, director of ICOM, has spent the whole of his working life in the plumbing & heating industry, starting as an apprentice plumber in 1984. He eventually specialised by focusing on the product management and technical support functions for a leading commercial boiler and water heater manufacturer. In this role Steve served on BSI and ICOM committees. In 2020 Steve was appointed director of ICOM, and also director of Manufacturers of Equipment for Heat Networks Association (MEHNA).


Tom Garrigan, BSRIA technical director, oversees the delivery of high-quality product and system testing and consultancy services, instrument sales, hire and calibration solutions along with the dissemination of technical knowledge through the publication of guides for a range of stakeholders. Tom is the Chair of the BSRIA LSBU Net Zero Building Centre, a joint venture between BSRIA and London South Bank University, that aims to accelerate the transition to Net Zero carbon buildings and systems. He is passionate about advancing the sustainability and performance of the built environment and contributing to the global efforts to reduce emissions and energy demand.
