Net Zero plan on track?

T

he Government’s Net Zero plan is gaining momentum following a surge in demand for heat pumps.

As we reach the two-year anniversary of the launch of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), figures for February show applications soared by 75% compared with the same month in 2023. The Heat Pump Association also

revealed an apparent growing interest among installers. Individuals who have completed training to become qualified heat pump installers showed an increase of 166% from just under 3,000 in 2022 to close to 8,000 in 2023. With these developments, manufacturers

are working hard to deliver suitable solutions to meet the growing demand. On pg 14 for example, Myson’s new fan

convector is said to be an ideal partner for heating systems that work on low temperatures such as heat pumps. Though most commercial sector

applications are not applicable for the BUS, there are still an expanding number of heat pump installations within this market. Here hybrids (Pg14) and hot water provision (Pg20) are two important considerations. Other features this month include Fans, HIUs & District Heating, HVAC for Schools and Domestic Ventilation.

ore than 200 of Ideal Heating’s Logic Air heat pumps are being installed in properties across the North East as part of a major social housing upgrade programme. Ideal Heating’s heat pumps form part of a £7m retrofit upgrade investment by Bernicia Group and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. The investment will mean

hundreds of tenants will benefit from improvements to their homes to meet Government targets, including the installation of heat pumps and solar panels, as well as better insulation. It is part of a wider £80m project to

upgrade more than 5,000 homes across the North East and Yorkshire under a Government programme to make homes more energy efficient. The two-year contract is underway, with more than 20 heat pumps already installed. The project spans homes in areas including Durham, Sunderland, Gateshead and across Northumberland. A total of 206 Logic Air heat pumps will be installed over the next 18 months, in Bernicia properties which do not achieve at least an energy SAP rating of C. Installation of the heat pumps will not cost tenants anything, or affect their rent. Mark Derbyshire, managing director (domestic products) at Groupe Atlantic UK, Republic of Ireland and North

America, parent company of Ideal Heating, said: “We’re delighted our Logic Air heat pumps have been chosen to form part of this important programme of social housing works. “Logic Air is perfect for social housing developments and upgrades, where infrastructure can be tailored to the requirements of heat pump installation.”
