Fujitsu’s new controller is better by design

F

ujitsu General Air Conditioning UK is introducing a sleek new local controller for Airstage systems designed to blend seamlessly with any installation space.

A Good Design Award winner in 2022 and selected as a fi nalist in the 2023 IDEA awards, the UTY-RVRY model is mounted on a frosted panel and uses mirrors and glass to create a unique fl oating appearance which complements the interior design. Information is only visible during operation, with the controller appearing as a mirror at other times. Coloured LED lighting indicates diff erent modes of operation and the light can be switched off to eliminate glare at night, making it an ideal option for hotel rooms. The screen can also display branding or corporate logos when not in use; images are sent via Bluetooth and saved in the fl ash memory built into each controller.

The controller is intuitive to use, with swipe motions rather than buttons. The screen is resistant to smears due to an anti-fi ngerprint coating and off ers exceptional visibility from any angle.

Multiple controllers can be programmed via a Bluetooth connection from a smartphone, using the AIRSTAGE Remo Set, a free app for technicians to set up wired controllers. Settings from a controller can be downloaded, adjusted or copied to another unit, making installation of similar systems or indoor units quicker and easier.

Nuaire releases CPD on high temperature axial fans and VSDs

N

uaire has announced its latest CPD, which addresses high temperature axial fans & variable speed drives (VSDs). The CPD explains the standard ‘BS EN

12101-3:2002 Smoke and heat control systems - Specifi cation for powered smoke and heat exhaust ventilators’, and advise on compliance. Simon Plummer, Nuaire Axials divisional manager said: “Frequency converters have been permitted for use during a fi re event since 2015, enabling dual mode fans (those used for both day-to-day ventilation and high temperature smoke extraction) to be controlled by VSDs, even during fi res. Prior to this, the VSD had to be bypassed during a fi re event, with the fan running at 100%. However, there remains some confusion in the industry about how high temperature fans and VSDs can be certifi ed and used for the various smoke applications within buildings. Our new CPD directly addresses this, explaining the standard in detail and the fl exibility it off ers Consultant and Smoke.”

The CPD also covers the test conditions that high temperature axial fans and VSDs must undergo, before moving on to best practice in high temperature fan design. The importance of opting for a fan/VSD that has been tested as a package is stressed, along with an explanation of why a VSD “Fire Mode” smoke clearance function is needed. The CPD can be delivered free of charge at Nuaire’s head offi ce in South Wales, online, or at a customer’s premises.
