Flexible Packaging

ePac Flexible Packaging invests in UK site D

igital flexible packaging specialist ePac Holdings Europe has announced its latest plans to extend

its reach, including a second UK site for serving customers in the North of England. This follows the opening of the Silverstone site, in the Midlands, which is now operational and successfully producing high quality, digitally printed pouches and roll stock in fastest time to market. ePac Holdings Europe has also turned its

attention to mainland Europe and is actively searching for the most strategic locations to establish more manufacturing centres. Each site will deliver flexible packaging, printed utilising HP Indigo technology, in under 15 business days for pouches and 10 days for roll stock. “I’m very pleased to say that we are in

the process of establishing our second site in the UK, scheduled to open in the second half of 2020. Right from the start, it has been the plan to cover each region with its own facility,” says John Peat, managing director and managing partner, ePac UK. “We have the ability to replicate

this flexible platform and service model anywhere but mould it to fit the different regions and countries.”

“Building on the success in the United

States and the first site here, we will continue to roll out across the UK and into Europe. For the time being, the UK sites will serve Europe as we build up our customer base, with the view toward setting up shop

in other countries or regions as demand continues to grow.” Johnny Hobeika, managing director, ePac Holdings Europe, says, “While we serve brands of all sizes, we particularly focus on small to medium-sized brands and help them get their products to market in packaging that rivals their global competitors. By setting up smaller and very agile sites in each region, we can build close relationships with local producers, add value and then continue to support them as they grow. We are community focused and committed to giving our customers a chance to compete against larger rivals.” With a clear vision to take this philosophy global, the company has also just announced the creation of ePac Holdings Asia Pacific, located in Singapore. The first site in that region will be ePac Indonesia, in Tangerang to the west of Jakarta, scheduled to be operational in the second quarter of 2020, with orders being taken from early 2020.

Measuring and controlling plate quality with imaging technology

L

abel Traxx has announced that new features in Version 8.2 of its software are tailored toward flexible packaging manufacturers. Version 8.2 includes dedicated flexible packaging workflows for companies

selling unsupported film, sachets and pouches by weight. These new tools help with the accurate and consistent estimating of flexible packaging along with features specifically for flexible packaging order processing. The system not only takes into consideration the weight of the raw material and inks, but also considers other converting options such as additional machine passes to laminate or seal the packaging. In addition, Label Traxx Version 8.2 calculates the weight and cost of any other ancillary items such as spouts, zippers, seals or degassing valves. The flexible packaging products are quoted in the MIS system in pounds/

kilos, and then carried through to manufacturing instructions, order confirmations, packing slips and ultimately the invoice. Purchase orders for flexible packaging materials can also be made in pounds/kilos.

reek manufacturer of flexible packaging A. Hatzopoulos S.A. has successfully implemented a Sibress FlexoControl 3D Plus measuring system for flexo plate quality control. Amongst other things, Hatzopoulos has invested in a new flexo CTP

system for imaging photopolymer plates, a UV imaging system and a washing unit. A state-of-the art, ten-colour, central-cylinder flexo press has likewise been introduced. In order to meet both their own and their customers’ rigorous requirements for consistently high production quality and to put flexo platemaking quality control on a sound footing, Hatzopoulos decided to purchase an advanced quality control solution, hence the new Sibress FlexoControl. “FlexoControl 3D Plus lets us measure and document the dot percentage,

screen ruling, dot diameter and dot perimeter absolutely accurately”, says Aimilia Ventouri, Flexo Prepress Supervisor at Hatzopoulos. “And because the dots are simultaneously captured from the side in the third dimension, we can also measure the plate relief and create a compatibility curve. That way, we can assess the plate’s performance compared to the curve which was used to output the artwork.”
