Industry News Camvac bring thermal laminate to market
Camvac, a supplier of barrier films and laminates, both metallised and transparent, has re-launched their Thermal Laminate product range with enhanced product performance. The metallised triplex Thermal Laminate
range is part of the Camplex product portfolio and is predominantly used within the manufacture of Bag-in-Box and bulk liquid packaging solutions. The thermal lamination range provides excellent seal strength, seal integrity and flexibility, which are key performance parameters in the
packing and transportation of liquids. The metallised polyester film and conversion into metallised thermal laminate has been developed in-house. Camvac’s barrier film technology provides high oxygen barrier properties, maximising product shelf-life from packing through to consumption. Manufacturing of Camvac’s Thermal Laminate utilises the businesses Camplus
process to enhance the oxygen barrier and in combination with its improved thermal lamination technology delivers bags with exceptional strength. The enhanced product performance achieved through the recent development program will also enable Camvac to offer products from within the Thermal Laminate portfolio that could provide additional sustainability and cost savings to the supply chain. This will be achievable as the quality of the laminate may eliminate the requirement of the inner liner films, providing the possibility to significantly reduce the quantity of plastic per bag unit and deliver cost savings, whilst maintaining product performance. Camvac’s Thermal Laminates can be manufactured up to a width of 2180mm. Gary Chalkley, Camvac’s development director spoke of the products newfound
success: “Camvac’s investment programme has definitely contributed to the enhanced product performance and our capability to produce excellent barrier properties for the Thermal Laminate. But it has not all been about investment. Without the in-house Technical and Operation Teams working in tandem with the desire to improve the product performance we would not have been able to bring a superior product to market. Thermal Laminate by Camvac is a product range we see as an area of continuous improvement. This is just the first steps in the project. Our future laminate developments targeted at sustainability will provide the potential to revolutionise the Bag-in-Box and bulk liquid packaging marketplace”.
Arden leads the way with ‘green’ accreditation
The Arden Group has become the first die-making and engraving company in the UK to achieve a coveted accreditation in recognition of its eco-friendly operations. The ISO 14001 accreditation is an international standard which recognises organisations that have a successful environmental management system in place. Arden’s environmental management system clearly sets out how the company aims to minimise its environmental impact, including measures such as increasing recycling capacity, monitoring energy usage and not using chemical processes in production. Martin Poynter, managing director of the Arden Group, said: “The Arden Group is very proud to be leading the way in the die-making sector and to be
internationally recognised for being an environmentally friendly company. “Protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility and we’ve always promoted a ‘green’ culture across the business. Our corporate colours might be blue, but we’re very much a green company at heart. We no longer use any chemical processes in our production, the majority of the products we produce across our dies and engraving divisions are between 80 -100 per cent recyclable and we’ve cut our own plastic use internally by banning the use of bubble wrap and unnecessary packaging. It’s never been more important to promote sustainability within the packaging sector, so to be recognised for our efforts in this area is testament to the hard work of the whole workforce.”
The IPIA and BAPC collaborate on securing the future of print
The Independent Print Industries Association (IPIA) and the British Association for Print & Communication (BAPC) have combined forces as part of their shared mission to raise the tide for print in the long- term. The move will see the two embark on a new journey and bring together the strengths of both organisations to create an enhanced trade association. Sidney Bobb, who assumes the role of BAPC President following
more than three decades as Chairman, commented: “In these times of unprecedented change it is important that the leading industry bodies work together. That is why we have chosen to merge the BAPC with the IPIA, combing all our respective strengths and values, to support all the members and deliver the most comprehensive range of services possible." The BAPC was founded as the key trade association more than
forty years ago, representing the newly developed retail and quick print sector. It provides access to a huge amount of resources in expertise, knowledge, new technologies, ideas as well as assistance. As a collective group of print outlets, it provides members and associate members access to smarter ways of working, a wide range of support services and all kinds of stimuli to encourage business growth. Graeme Smith, chairman of the IPIA and long-standing council member commented: “We believe this is the next step in our evolution as we as look to build a stronger organisation that supports the business of print as it creates a new normal. What is absolutely critical to this endeavour is that we empower our members to realise the value they represent to the end-customer, and how they can leverage that to improve their long-term business prospects, and ultimately, their profitability.”
