Compostable varnish for board and paper packaging

an you recognize this situation? You are in the supermarket to buy apples. You find some apples in a tray of board, but you realize that the tray seems wet. Using board or paper instead of plastic is a challenge that many companies experience, because board and paper do not offer the same protective functions as plastic does. In this case, it resulted in a wet tray from ingress of outside moisture.
Yet, due to the increased environmental concerns, more sustainable solutions are demanded both from companies and consumers. Therefore, companies seek solutions to decrease the plastic consumption, thus choosing board and paper packaging as alternatives. Luckily, Resino has developed a solution to the challenges of packaging made of board and paper.
Resino offers a water-based varnish that is also compostable. Traditionally, PE coating is used on board and paper materials but this type of coating ruins the opportunity for recycling. Therefore, our water-based varnish
enables the packaging to be recycled. This varnish is specially developed to be used for foodstuff applications on coated and uncoated board, paper, and most packaging films. Thus, the varnish is suitable for both direct and indirect food contact. Furthermore, the varnish has optimal flow properties, good gloss and colour strength and provides exceptional water resistance. You can read more about our compostable, water-based varnish here.
Not only does Resino offer compostable varnishes, Resino is also expecting to launch a compostable set of inks within the next couple of months. The development of these compostable inks is almost completed, and they are built upon the same technique as the compostable varnishes.
