Laser die cutting - the perfect choice for

T

cutting complex parts Looking to perform high precision cutting of multiple profiles without tooling cost? Laser technology from Delta Modtech offers the perfect solution.

he Delta Modtech converting system with Delta Edge laser technology gives businesses the flexibility to convert a variety of products on one system. As with most high technology products, Delta Modtech’s Edge is a synergy of design, engineering, software and hardware, all integrated to work together.

Lasers have been around in one form or another for several decades. All lasers are based on the principle of energising a gas (such as carbon dioxide) as a beam of light is passed through it. The focused energy of that light literally vaporises material in its path. In the case of diagnostics and other complex medical products it creates a clean cut that eliminates the need to remove the small scraps of material left by the knives of mechanical cutting dies. The power of a laser can be varied by changing the wattage (more watts equals more light) and the frequency or how fast the laser pulses. This enables a single cutting unit to be used to cut a variety of products. The laser can also be turned rapidly on and off to create specific shapes, designs, patterns and types of cuts.

DIFFERENT THICKNESSES

“Being able to change the power allows a laser cutter to handle substrates of differing types and thicknesses,” explains Joel Oakes, a systems design engineer at Delta Modtech. “A laser module installed at a label converter may be cutting a label just one mil thick but another more powerful machine using essentially the same technology can be used on much thicker and harder material used in a medical diagnostic item.”

Incorporating a laser on a Delta Modtech converter is not uncommon. Many of these custom designed and engineered systems have a laser cutting station as well as one or two conventional rotary cutting dies. This is another nod to flexibility because the two processes can

FASTER TURNAROUND

No matter the system configuration, the laser’s big advantage shows up in less set-up time and substantially faster turnaround times between jobs.

Delta Modtech’s Edge Laser Technology is the perfect solution for tool-less precision multiple depth cutting in a single pass. The module can cut a variety of cuts including perforation, kiss- cut and thru-cut.

ADVANTAGES OF DELTA’S EDGE LASER TECHNOLOGY O No maximum or minimum repeat O Variety of cuts, kiss-cut, thru-cut perforation, drilling, text, scoring, ablation

O Flexible design: total system may include rotary and semi-rotary die cutting, lamination, delamination, island placement, slitting and sheeting

O Repositionable: user can easily move laser from one position to another

O Power: 150-1000 watt O Field of view: 170mm, 350mm, 500mm, 700mm, custom upon request.

work well in tandem and because some jobs require more cutting than either technology can provide on its own.

ICE Europe 2022 15-17 March, 2022

I

n Hall A6 / Stand 686 we will feature a Delta ModTech Crusader converter demonstrating precise manufacturing of a multi-layer roll to roll product. Technical sales and design engineer representatives will be on hand and available for private meetings to discuss your toughest manufacturing challenges.

The system will showcase a variety of processes including tight tolerance rotary die cutting, multi-layer lamination, precise placement and the INTELLI-MOD control system.

Lopec Trade Fair March 23-24, 2022

V

isit us on Stand B0.209, where we will feature the same Crusader Converter demonstration. Delta ModTech systems are custom designed and engineered to meet your application requirements, improve your profitability, and reduce your risk.
