Carton, Board & Paper No minimum printed packaging

service launched for SMEs Affordable short-run printing and fast order fulfilment will add agility to the packaging market, according to Ian Axelsen, business development manager at AA Labels.

C

ustomers are becoming more impatient. Increased reliance on e-commerce and the on-demand economy means that consumers increasingly expect fast delivery of their goods. Research from MetaPack found that 47% of consumers based in metropolitan areas want online merchants to offer a one-hour delivery service, while almost a quarter (22%) of respondents said they had utilised same day delivery.

Further research from Zebra Technologies, which compiled expert insight from retail and logistics professionals, noted how same-day delivery is expected to be the norm by 2023. That puts real pressure on SMEs to produce, package and dispatch goods quickly.

For SMEs to be able to compete with big online retailers they need access to affordable and flexible packaging options. Currently, the market doesn’t cater to the needs of SMEs, many of which cannot afford to order minimum quantities due to cash flow, which also removes their ability to test new products, offer short run limited

editions or personalise their packaging. We’re committed to developing a packaging market that caters to the needs of SMEs by providing greater flexibility and more affordable packaging solutions.

Our printed cartons service has been designed and developed for small to medium businesses who need affordable packaging for short print runs, with quick turnaround times. The new service was developed in response to customer feedback and industry research, which revealed that the standard quotation and ordering process was outdated, cumbersome and time consuming.

Our printed cartons service enables businesses to seamlessly complete the entire process online, providing the agility to meet the increasing demands set by customers.

Users simply select the size and style of the paperboard carton required, upload their artwork and order the required quantity online, with no minimum order restrictions. The new service will also provide greater access to the personalised

packaging market, an area which research shows as playing a key role in increasing consumer engagement, brand awareness, customer loyalty and sales.

Our research highlighted a key gap in the market for a full buy online service rather than the industry’s quotation and call back model. The packaging industry relies heavily on outdated legacy practices and tradition, so there is an opportunity to overhaul the market. The labels market has been operating successfully under the buy online model for many years, so business owners recognise and understand the benefits of this approach. The core concerns for our customers are affordability and flexibility; they do not have the resources to commit to large print runs, they need fast order fulfilment and they do not want to compromise on print quality. The new service includes printed product cartons and sleeves, as well as promotional ‘table talkers’ including cubes, pyramids and tent cards, along with bottle neck collars, door hangers and many other items, for customisation and short- run.

To further support SMEs, we will also develop a number of pre-designed templates for brands working to limited budget, something that is particularly helpful for start-ups. The last two years have highlighted the increasing need for businesses to be flexible, whether that is shorter print runs for product packaging or fast printing and delivery of cartons for products that are selling quickly, and we’re aiming to help them with that process. Our design templates will enable businesses to create affordable seasonal, limited edition or personalised packaging, without the need for a professional designer.

It removes that barrier of entry for small businesses that need to minimise their costs whilst building their business and their brand, and enable them to meet the ever-changing needs of today’s consumers.
