Accurate, cost-conscious on-line coat weight and moisture measurement
N
DC Technologies, one of the leading global providers of precision measurement and control solutions, has launched the ConvertIR gauge for fixed-point, on-line coat weight and moisture measurement
of paper, coatings and films. Cost-conscious converters have needed a reliable, stable and, accurate on-line measurement solution for their narrow- web lines, which ConvertIR’s fixed- point measurement addresses. “For years, generic instrumentation suppliers have offered moisture and
coat weight gauges which promise measurements at a low price,” says Ian Benson, marketing director for NDC Technologies. “However, in practice, experience has not met expectation: These gauges need regular re- calibration, have poor measurement accuracy and instrument stability, which limit their applications especially where measurement and control are important. NDC’s ConvertIR gauge solves this problem.” The ConvertIR infrared moisture and coat weight gauge is based on NDC’s
proven optical filter technology. ConvertIR offers long-term accurate measurement performance, independent of changes in ambient conditions, such as lighting, temperature or humidity. This gauge also provides tolerance to physical process changes such as pass line. Because of its fast measurement speed, ConvertIR delivers continuous moisture and coat weight measurements, enabling converting processes consistently measured and tightly controlled. The performance advantages of ConvertIR translate into numerous financial benefits for Converters: - Enhanced product quality and consistency; - Reduced waste or scrap; - Faster start-up and product change times; - Rapid ROI.
ConvertIR is available in two configurations: A single gauge with Operator Interface (OI) and dual gauge with both instruments connected into a single OI. Applications include single-point measurements, for example, after a dryer, before and/or after a re-moisturiser, after a coating station for a wet coating or after a dryer to measure a dry organic coating film. Dual-gauge applications provide left and right measurements for basic
profile manipulation. ConvertIR can also be equipped with an air purge window to keep optics free of dust and other volatile contaminants.
