SIEMENS FINANCIAL SERVICES UK Health and wellness products are another area of growth, and
support this bespoke approach. Consumers’ growing demands for minimally processed foods, and cleaner labels with simple ingredient lists, are being heard.iii
This is reflected in acquisitions
of health food brands by bigger players, such as PepsiCo buying the prebiotic soda brand Poppi, or Celsius Holdings’ acquisition of supplement brand Alani Nu.iv
There continues to be opportunity
here for innovative products that tap into the behaviours of health- conscious customers.

3. Sustainability gains Opportunities for green gains are numerous – from the energy that powers vending machines, to the credentials of the supplying companies. Mars recently announced, for instance, that all ten of its snacking factories in Europe are now fully powered by renewable
energy.vi
Smaller suppliers are making their own large strides. The UK’s
Radnor Hills was recently recognised for ‘leading the way in sustainability far beyond its size and scale’, and named Sustainable Supplier of the Year by the Federation of Wholesale Distributors (FWD).vii
The manufacturer has its own on-site solar farm which
powers a quarter of the factory’s annual electricity consumption, and has achieved zero waste to landfill since 2018.
Fresh, regional produce meets the vending machine The vending machine can provide an unexpected solution for pressurised consumer businesses. Struggling farmers, for instance, may be inspired by The Old Tractor Shed Farm Shop in Brookland, which is selling its produce out of hours – with the help of vending machines. The enterprising farm has installed three vending machines offering milk, pickles, meats, fruit juices and fresh vegetables when the main business is closed. Visitors can conveniently pay by tapping their bank cards and smart
phones.viii
