At the forefront is the forthcoming reform of the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) regulations, which could substantially infl uence retailers’ operations. Bira is campaigning vigorously on the
proposed WEEE changes, engaging directly with policymakers at DEFRA (the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Aff airs) to ensure the voice of independent electrical traders is heard. Key concerns include the potential for increased costs associated with fi nancing WEEE collection and treatment, as well as complex new data reporting requirements. “We are adamant that any WEEE reform must
not overburden small retailers with excessive red tape and fi nancial pressures. Bira is putting forward constructive recommendations that
