ndependent electrical retailers are being encouraged to attend EI Live! 2022, the

leading event for the residential AV and home automation industry. EI Live! is taking place at Farnborough

International Exhibition Centre on September 14-15. Show director David Kitchener said that

the show, which is this year sponsored by aico, is back bigger and better than ever, with extra floor space, more exhibitors, and more attractions. Mr Kitchener said: “The AV and home

automation industry is growing like there’s no tomorrow; CEDIA estimates that in the UK, this is a £1 billion industry. “For independent electrical retailers, this

sector offers another revenue stream; if you’re not in the AV and home automation industry, come to EI Live! and this could well launch you

into the industry, because you’ll be able to meet people and get advice. “Visit EI Live! and you’ll see all the latest

updates and the new products that are being launched at the show.” Mr Kitchener said that one exhibitor, Snap

One, is running dealer training at EI Live! “This will take the form of technical training and sales training,” Mr Kitchener said. “The technical training session will look at best practices for delivering a successful installation,

New website checker launched to combat online fraud

A

new website-checking tool has been launched to help users confirm whether a site is legitimate before they visit.

Internet safety group Get Safe Online has worked with fraud prevention

service Cifas to create the tool, which enables users to enter the address of any website to check if it a real site or a scam. The tool is hosted on the Get Safe Online website and uses an algorithm based on more than 40 data sources and malicious website reports from law enforcement agencies, regulators and consumer brands to identify and vet the sites entered by users. Tony Neate, Get Safe Online’s chief executive, said: “Launching Check a

Website is revolutionary and we are very excited to be able to finally offer individuals the opportunity to literally check a website before they use it. “We are also hugely grateful to our partners who have helped to make it happen. Now, we just want to let as many people know about it as possible so the UK can benefit from this new capability and help improve the united fight against scammers.” Cifas said there was a 43% increase in cases involving identity theft filed

to the National Fraud Database in the first three months of 2022, compared to the same period last year.

ndustry stalwart Adrian Gillman, the driving force behind Domestic Appliance Distributors (D.A.D), was presented

with the Beko Contribution to the Industry Award at the IER Awards 2022. Mr Gillman’s foray into the electrical industry started as a 15-year old when his father, John, sent him down to Lec Refrigeration in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, with the aim of him becoming a refrigeration engineer. Speaking on stage at the IER Awards, industry guru Stuart Hopwood

said: “Yes, you’ve definitely come a long way since qualifying as a refrigeration engineer at 15. “Then at 26, realising there was a lack of distributor support to independent retailers, you ‘father figured’ a distributor.” Mr Hopwood continued: “Independent retailers are very much in a

better place due to your selfless successes, and wait, there’s more. “If leading a growing and successful distribution company isn’t enough,

you have also built up two successful brands – there is no stopping the admirable support you have created by leading by example.” ¡ See p26 for all the news from this year’s IER Awards.

while the sales training will explore Snap One’s strategic categories.” Mr Kitchener highlighted that parking is free

at the Farnborough International Exhibition Centre and entry to the show is free too. “The Technical Theatre will be back this year,

offering a varied programme of training and learning opportunities drawn direct from the industry and interesting related fields,” he added. “A trip to EI Live!, the only dedicated AV and home automation exhibition in the UK, could pay dividends for independent electrical retailer, as they have the opportunity to learn all they need to know. “Apart from seeing, hearing, and feeling all of the various products, all AV distributors and manufacturers offer full training – often free of charge.” For more information, visit www.eiliveshow.
