Welcome to the May issuse of Electrical Wholesaler! A
mendment 2 to the 18th edition of the wiring accessories regulations came into effect at the end of March, and it’s vital that all in the electrical industry are up to speed. Luckily, industry associations and suppliers alike have planned way ahead, with webinars, handbooks and webpages all dedicated to ensuring compliance is made as straightforward as possible.
Regulations are constantly evolving along with technology to ensure safety standards remain fit-for-purpose. This month, CMD’s Neil Smith discusses the implications of the proposed update to BS 6396, which ensures electrical power, data and telecommunications systems in offices and education are safe and compliant with the Electricity at Work Regulations and the Health & Safety at Work Act. Turn to page 26 to find out more. Our cover story this month, meanwhile, comes from Timeguard, looking at the options its energy- saving controls range offers to help people keep their consumption under control during the cost- of-living squeeze. Read more on page 10.

On a similar note, Schneider Electric’s Nico van der Merwe discusses the potential of smart home devices - powered by clean electricity – to help decarbonise our dwellings at pace, without changing our digital and connected lifestyles. More on page 24.
Finally, as always, this issue includes our regular news, views, product and installation features from market-leading businesses across the sector - including a write-up of the IBA Buying Group’s long-anticipated March trade show, and a special feature from Scolmore on the importance of ensuring provenance when selecting products.
