Stocking the right fan for the job
Multiple lockdowns and COVID restrictions are causing a spike in home improvements. Households are spending the money they saved on not going out or on holiday on improving their homes instead with a new bathroom high up on the wish list. However, how can electrical wholesalers advise their customers on the latest trends and fulfil the wish lists for households? Lena Hebestreit, marketing manager from ventilation specialists Vent-Axia, looks at the latest bathroom must-haves that will keep households and installers happy.
homes has become a national pastime. According to the Checkatrade Home Pride Index 2021, British homeowners spent an average of £2,608 on home improvements in 2020 – up 15%, or £338, compared to 2019. But it doesn’t stop there. According to the homeowners surveyed, 79% think there’s still room for improvement, with redecorating the living room/bedroom/bathroom coming out on top. With any bathroom renovation, ventilation is

key to ensuring good indoor air quality (IAQ) and freedom from condensation and mould. For wholesalers, stocking the right fans on shelves is key to maximising sales, but do you know what fan features are in demand?
Aesthetics An increased focus on interior design is driving improved aesthetics of everything in the home, including fan design. Black interiors have been named a key aesthetic by the design world for 2021 and so Vent-Axia’s popular Lo-Carbon Svara fan is now available in a choice of black or white, making it the ideal ventilation solution for this year’s on-trend bathrooms. Offering more options for a high-end look, the Svara is a multipurpose bathroom fan that offers a sleek, modern design. For customers preferring a silent aesthetic, the Vent-Axia Silent Fan now has a discrete tile like version. Alternatively, the award- winning Vent-Axia PureAir Sense offers minimal styling, clean lines and an optional cover that complements any modern bathroom. Winner of a prestigious Red Dot Product Design Award, the PureAir Sense is the UK’s only bathroom fan with Odour Sense Technology. Designed to improve

indoor air quality, the fan increases airflow when the sensor detects that air in a home is poor, creating a comfortable living environment.
Noise Improving a bathroom’s air quality doesn’t have to be noisy either. Silence is a prized commodity today, which has led to manufacturers investing in continually improving bathroom extractor fan acoustics. At Vent-Axia we use our own sound laboratory to ensure the fans we design are exceptionally quiet. Our Silent Fan range is the quietest on the market, offering ultra-low sounds levels of just 12dB(A), quieter than a whisper. Meanwhile the Lo-Carbon Svara runs at only

Install However, when choosing which quiet fans to stock, wholesalers should not just look at their sound levels since there are other factors to consider. Although silence is a really big driver for households, it may not be the only box to tick on a wishlist. As a result, manufacturers have been adding to their quiet fan ranges to offer increased flexibility and choice for households. For example, with Vent-Axia’s Silent Fan range there are now eight models to choose from including an IP45-rating, variable speed models, humidistat options and both intermittent and continuous ventilation models. Variable speed models make installation easier since electricians can simply adjust the speed depending on the individual needs of the project, ensuring the right fan every time. And the Silent Fan stays quiet even with longer duct runs and higher air flow.

Indoor air quality Households are now more aware than ever of the air they breathe because of COVID. This means fans that make a real difference to IAQ are an essential. Whilst many fans effectively improve IAQ, there are smart fans that offer app control so that households can control their ventilation as well as a host of other clever features. For example, the Svara’s innovative app allows households to control their ventilation from the comfort of their sofa unlocking a whole range of different functions to control their home’s IAQ,
