Simplifying smart home security

It may be ‘smart’, but smart security needs to be simple for today’s homeowners. K

arl Woolley, head of product for Yale Retail, highlights the key trend wholesalers should be aware of in the smart security market to stay up to date with current consumer demand. ‘Smart homes’ are no longer reserved for the technology innovators and early adopters. We’re reaching an age where smart homes are the norm – or at least the technology that drives them is commonplace in the average UK home. According to recent research from solar energy company GreenMatch in 2026, the UK smart home market is expected to grow to nearly £12 billion. By 2027, there will be over 15 million ‘smart homes’ in the UK. That equates to over half of UK homes, showing the sheer scale of this continuously growing market.

Whilst smart home adoption began years ago with the arrival of smart speakers, providing a hub for the start of a smart system, the category has shown no signs of slowing since, and that’s down to one key benefit – convenience. Being able to automate menial tasks and control smart home devices remotely has ensured smart home usage has continue to grow over the last five years. This is the same story in the smart security sector where convenience, control and peace of mind are a gift for homeowners.

In more recent years, with new smart home products entering the market regularly and infiltrating homes, we’ve seen a further shift in consumer behaviour.

Today, with homeowners having numerous

smart home gadgets across their home, there’s another key benefit consumers are looking for - the ability to control all their devices in one place. A fully connected smart home system allows homeowners to do just that, adding an additional layer of convenience to these already handy home gadgets.

Simplifying security

Noticing this shift in consumer demand, the security experts at Yale introduced its new Smart

Security Ecosystem last year, a system designed to ensure all its popular smart security products work and interact together as part of a fully connected smart system.

The Smart Security Ecosystem ensures all areas of the home are covered with Yale’s superior security protection. The system includes a range of high quality smart security products from Smart Alarms, Smart Locks, Smart Security Cameras, a Smart Video Doorbell and a range of accessories to further boost the convenience and security of the range.

Yale’s products connect together through the intuitive Yale Home app, allowing homeowners to control each of their devices through one central interface. The Ecosystem also benefits from interoperability with other smart home brands for heightened convenience, pairing with leading voice assistants including Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and smart lighting brand, Philips Hue, to control smart lighting and security under the same app.

Users can personalise their system to suit their lifestyle, building a heightened security experience around their personal routine. For example, Yale’s Linus Smart Lock, can be set to lock at a certain time to fit in around the
