Cover Story The Other House, South Kensington
The Portfolio Club have refurbished the former Harrington Hall Hotel, which has been empty for six years, and brought it back into use under the new brand name - The Other House, which is located close to Hyde Park and Knightsbridge and on the doorstep of some of London’s most iconic cultural landmarks. Taking a strong stand on environmental responsibility, The Other House was designed to promote physical and mental well-being. Built sustainably, they used natural products wherever possible. With tree-filled courtyards and green roofs, they created a sanctuary in the heart of the city to relax and restore. Selectric collaborated with the designers and contractors and created a bespoke antique brass screwless plate for this project. They also developed some custom toggle switches exactly to the client’s requirements whilst complimenting the traditional style of the refurbishment, showcasing the very best in British craftsmanship and award-winning design.
Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa, Ocean Village The award-winning Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa has transformed Ocean Village with its striking superyacht inspired design. On the ground floor, The Jetty restaurant drifts out onto an extensive outdoor terrace, featuring luxury relaxation pods to take in the marina views. The hotel was named ‘Hotel of the Year’ at the prestigious C&IT Awards in 2018. The 5M-PLUS screwless range in satin chrome grey insert was used throughout this project.
Bodmin Jail Hotel, Cornwall
CField Construction have converted the 240-year-old Bodmin Jail into a state-of-the-art visitor centre and 70 Bed 4-Star boutique hotel with associated external services, new car parking and retaining wall. The Grade II-listed building conversion was particularly challenging with walls up to one metre thick and nine species of bat having colonised the ruins. Old cells were knocked through to create spacious accommodations, and a glass roof was installed. The project won Refurbishment Project of the Year at the Building Magazine Awards 2022. Our 5M-PLUS in matt white was used throughout this refurbishment.
Leonardo Hotel, Manchester Work is underway on replacing an outdated two- storey office furniture store at 1 Adair Street near Manchester Piccadilly station with a striking newbuild property to be operated by Fattal Hotel Group under the Leonardo Hotels brand. Upon completion, the development will feature 275 hotel rooms, as well as a restaurant and bar at ground level. The Selectric 5M matt black range was used throughout the interior and added a stylish unique statement to every room. Designed by Stephenson Studio for developer Capital & Centric, the scheme features 17 external planted tiers focused around the northern end of the building. Referred to in planning documents as ‘Jenga blocks’, these tiers will be filled with trees, shrubs, ferns, grasses and perennials tailored to suit the microclimate of each space, helping to green the city.
